Biography
Sigurd
Sigurd is the shrineskeeper for the temple, tasked with keeping it clean and tidy as well as keeping the offerings to the Stormcatcher fresh. She works hard at her job, and it shows across the temple — you would think the temple was entirely unoccupied, because she stays so on top of any speck of mud left behind. The temple is practically glistening, and the floor so well-swept that it can be hard to keep your balance.
When Sigurd was a hatchling, she was selected as a candidate for exaltation. But after studying and working and preparing and counseling for weeks and weeks, Sigurd approached Ravadove with a reluctant confession: She didn’t think she was destined to work for the Stormcatcher. She thought her place was still here, in the world, in the clan, helping build the Clan of the Striking Bolt. Normally, such talk would get a potential exaltee nudged towards Esequiel, but Ravadove was touched by the bravery it took to confess this that she allowed her to stay as the temple’s shrinekeeper.
As she was once a candidate for exaltation herself, Sigurd has a great understanding of the process and preparations taken before a dragon is exalted, and while her job at the temple is, on paper, to keep it clean, in actuality, she usually serves as a better counselor than Esequiel. When a dragon leaves Esequiel’s office with their head spinning from her religious drivel, Sigurd is usually there to sit them down and really explain what’s going to happen and their new place as an employee for the Stormcatcher. She’s a great comfort for dragons who are torn about the idea of exaltation.
Sigurd has a very strained relationship with her father, Anaster. He is a very scientifically-minded dragon, and she has become very religiously inclined over the years, and this has driven a schism between them, as both have impeded their ideas upon the other and both are too arrogant to admit their faults. Sigurd is capable of seeing the hesitation in her father’s face and has the feeling he wants to apologize, and is humble enough to admit that she should probably apologize, too…But overall, both of them are too proud to say a word.
