Anaster was once a chemist in a lab with many other chemists, working on a number of poultices, creams, gels, and other solutions. But one day, there was a horrific accident, and it all backsplashed onto Anaster, maiming and marring most of his skin. It was only by intervention by strong Lightning magic that Anaster lived, but he was so scarred that he chose to cover himself up and leave the lab to find a new home.

…Or so the story goes. Since no one has ever seen Anaster without the clothing that covers most of his body, there is no way to verify this story. And he only tells this story to hatchlings, with the hint of a cheeky smile behind the mask. Perhaps it’s not true, and it’s only a safety precaution. Or perhaps it is true, but he greatly exaggerates the extent of his injuries. Perhaps no one will ever know one way or the other, except for Anaster himself.

Anaster spends most of his time secluded in his lab, working on…some sort of concoction. He has a name for it, and he’s more than happy to explain his current project to those who ask, but his explanation is so full of chemistry technobabble and jargon that it leaves even his fellow scientists dizzy. He doesn’t mind if other dragons stop by to talk to him or to watch him work, but he takes lab safety very seriously and will not hesitate to evict anyone who doesn’t have the proper protection or who steps a little too close to the bubbling beaker.

Anaster is often at odds with his daughter, Sigurd. Sigurd is a dragon of the mystical and is very pious, while Anaster is extremely scientific and searches for cold facts. The two butt heads so often that nowadays, they rarely speak to each other, but secretly, Anaster holds a deep regret for how he had treated her in the past and wishes he was brave enough to ask for her forgiveness.
