"what a sad, beautiful, tragic love affair."
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

In the Plaguelands, he was a force to be reckoned with. His bite was brutal, his claws were sharp, and his tail could break bones. His pain tolerance was shockingly high. Most others left him to his territory, and those who didn't likely wouldn't leave without a few wounds. Although he was brutal, he bore lovely, vibrant markings. He was a good specimen for a father, but never sought to mate.

The day she appeared changed him.

She bore scars, as he did--albeit less of them. She was mangled and mutated, more so than any other Plague creature he had ever seen. She was small, but she burned with rage. She approached him with the intent to fight, which wasn't especially abnormal. In the land of Plague, it was smart to attempt to prove one's strength over a drake like him. But something struck him about her, and her comparatively weak blow knocked the air out of him.

He easily overpowered her. He did minimal damage to her, exerting enough strength to tire her out and pin her down. He spoke to her for the first time.

"Who are you?" he asked awkwardly, feeling almost... sheepish.

She didn't struggle, knowing it would be wasted energy, but her eyes seemed to scorch him. ... She had six.

"No one you know," she hissed. He could kill her if he wanted, but she was still defiant. Her dying breath would probably be a curse.

"I'm Let," he offered. His voice was gentle for perhaps the first time in his life. It was met only with silence and that steady, piercing gaze. It made him melt.

Slowly, he let her up. As expected, she swiped, grazing her claws against his throat. He didn't flinch, and this made her waver a bit. He watched her analyze him, picking him apart with her eyes. Her attention intoxicated him. He never wanted her to look away.

"... Baklajan." Finally, the name crawled from her jaws. It was rough in the mouth, like chewing on a bone. It was very fitting.

She hung around for a while, to rest and heal wounds from prior battles. He brought food for her, and sometimes offered other gifts he scavenged. Despite her pride, she seemed to enjoy being doted on and not having to fend for herself for a while.

He was so aware now of what an empty life he'd been living, doing nothing but fighting over worthless land. He craved nothing more than to fill his life with her.

Slowly, she opened up, like a bloom with a bud of stone. She would not be rushed, and he made sure not to do so. She revealed that she had been betrayed, and that she wished to grow stronger so that it never happened again. He offered to spar with her, to teach her how to do the most damage with the fewest strikes. He did all he could to never make her bleed, and she seemed to moderate her own force as well. Accidents happened, but he barely felt them. They didn't matter. Only she did.

The days passed swiftly, and soon she practically lived with him. When he left to hunt and gather, she defended the territory mercilessly. He often returned to find her maw stained crimson. She ate viciously on those nights.

One night, they spent it together. He had never imagined it was possible to see such beauty in another creature.

When she stated she was leaving, he didn't hesitate. He wished to stay by her side, he declared, no matter what. It took convincing--she was a loner, and a paranoid one at that--but he won her over. She was smart; he was invaluable, with power to match almost any other and loyalty that was unbreakable. She led the way through Arcane territory, and he followed without question.

He has been by her ever since, proving to be instrumental in the capture of Clan Celestian. More than anything, he wants to be her mate. But this is enough. It's more than enough.
