Almasi is the clan jeweler, who makes his own jewelry, or gets commissions for specific pieces and repairs. It’s not the most glamorous or necessary job, but he brings in treasure for the clan’s finances and considering that their vault isn’t exactly overflowing, any income made is welcome.

- Hatchling Biography -
Almasi was an only child born into a high class family with abundant wealth and the means to show it off. He was raised attending extravagant parties, spending unnecessary amounts of treasure and studying to become his father’s right hand man.

He was a prince, of sorts, and such a title presented to one so young was bound to give the hatchling a rather big ego, so it was no surprise that Almasi grew to have a rather high opinion of himself.

And he only grew worse as he aged.

- Adolescent Biography -
With his studies and social duties to keep him busy, Almasi didn’t have a lot of free time, but what little he did have was spent in his personal library, reading of far off places he’d never get the chance or the time to travel to.

It was always at times like that, in the in between moments, when there were no parties being planned or extravagant ceremonies to attend, that Almasi would realize the lack of true companionship in his life.

He was lonely, though he loathed to admit as such out loud; his pride wouldn’t allow it. So he convinced himself that such things were ultimately meaningless and that money and good looks were really all he needed to become happy and successful. With this newfound drive and ideology in mind, Almasi focused even more intently on his lessons and dove into his family’s social circles with more charm and vigor than before.

But eventually, everything felt like background noise–static and faded. Almost fuzzy, but in a way that made him dread being alone with just the deafening silence for company.

There were little things that made the days better, such as visits from his grandmother and the small trips his family would take sometimes to the ocean, but before long, even these things did not help to break up the monotony that had become his life, nothing did.

Until a circus came into town.

Initially, he only went because he and his parents had been invited to go by some very high class friends, and turning down such an invitation could seriously damage their family’s reputation, but once there, absorbing the surreal atmosphere and watching all the incredible feats performed, he was instantly intrigued. Even more eye catching were the beautiful outfits all the performers wore and their sparkling jewelry.

After his first visit, Almasi only grew more and more interested, to the point of obsession, with the strange surreal beauty of the troupe and its performers. He began to keep track of when they’d be in town and for how long and he went to every single show, every chance he got.

His parents thought it was just a phase and that he would eventually grow out of it, just a strange interest in something new and shiny and eventually, he’d give it up and everything would resume as normal.

But they were wrong.

- Adult Biography -
Almasi’s interest in all circus related things only grew as he got older, much to his parent’s dismay. His grandmother, however, was supportive and encouraged him to go as often as possible. He would bring her back souvenirs and little stories and they would sit and talk and string pieces of jewelry together, inspired by the pieces he saw on the troupe members, well into the night.

When his grandmother finally passed away, Almasi was heartbroken and felt more isolated than ever before. All he had left of her were his memories of their chats, the jewelry pieces they’d made together and the feeling of finding things she would have liked at the troupe’s shows.

One night, a performer backstage broke her neck piece and the sound of her apologies reached Almasi’s ears, who had just happened to be passing by. He asked to examine the necklace and realized with a start that he could fix it. When he offered to do so, he received looks of confusion and doubt, but the performer was desperate and next to be on stage so she agreed.

He restored the piece back to its former glory as quickly as he could and it held all through the performance. Before he managed to leave, the performer, an illusionist whose name he learns later to be Pralia, thanked him and offered him a place with her circus if he ever needed it. Apparently, they were desperately looking for someone to fill in an open position in their costume department.

For months, he thought about that offer, about what it’d be like to run away with the circus and spend his time picking their jewels and helping them dazzle crowds and he found that he wanted it. More than anything he’d ever wanted before.

But he never gathered the courage to do so until the same circus came back in town on the same night his parents started to bear down on him with his soon to be responsibilities as his father’s official right hand man. That night, he snuck away with nothing but some books, clothes and the jewelry he and his grandmother made together. He showed up at the entrance to the grounds and asked for the illusionist. Pralia came to him, with a big smile on her face, and welcomed him into the circus family.

He did not look back.

He traveled with them for years, helping with costumes and jewelry and it felt like it was where he was born to be. He was so happy to be with them, with Pralia, who ate lunch with him everyday and walked the grounds with him when they’d finished all their other duties, who was one of the few that could deal with his horrible attitude on a regular basis, who could roll out colorful insults when he was being too haughty, who never asked about the small jewelry pieces he never dared to wear, with Rogrin, the circus leader who became a sort of father figure to Almasi, who tried to teach him to be humble and kind and to always be grateful for what you have but just couldn’t get it to stick, with Edri and Dasran and Slutok and all his new family members. It felt like everyday was a new and wonderful adventure.

All things must come to an end, however, and the circus eventually disbanded, after not making enough money to support themselves. They all promised to keep in touch and after a series of tearful and heavy goodbyes, they went their separate ways.

It was during his time traveling solo, that he came across Eirwen, who’d been complaining about one of her bracelets being broken to some sap in a local tavern. He walked up to her and point blank told her he could fix it. She was extremely suspicious at first, but after witnessing him fix her bracelet, Eirwen dragged him back to the clan, insisting that his valuable skill set be put to use with her clan.

After arguing with Ausha and Dak, who didn’t really see the need for a jeweler but could not turn away someone lacking a home, Eirwen got Almasi admitted into the clan.

He still repairs jewelry, but now he mostly makes his own for commissions and to sell at the marketplace. He’s a bit of a perfectionist, and tends to get tunnel focus when he's working on something, so he takes quite a while to finish, but his pieces are always beautiful and dazzling and honestly, he could be making jewelry for kings, if he wanted.

While he and Eirwen become good friends, and Ribaia by association, he also ends up forming a close bond with the others who sell their crafts for treasure, like Ferrilata and Karno and Lyren, though his relationship with Lyren is a bit rocky. Mostly because she’s less willing to let his attitude slide, telling him that if he wants to be a rude little gremlin, then he can go hang out with Nacro or go jump in the haunted lake.

It’s not the circus, but well, it’s a decent enough life. And he still hears from Pralia and Rogrin, so it’s not like he has nothing left of that part of his life. He misses it, but well, this clan is almost like a circus at times, and sometimes it has that same atmosphere and most of the dragons are generally tolerable, so.

He’s doing good. And he didn’t think, after the circus, that he’d ever be able to say that again but here he is, happy, and successful and surrounded by others who are just as strange and wonderful as his old troupe family.

Even if he’s not where he thought he would be, or should be, his life isn’t bad at all.

- Additional Notes -
➤ Almasi’s hat was a parting gift from Pralia, who’d made a comment once that he’d look good in a ribbon hat. He very rarely ever takes it off.

➤ His locket holds a picture of his grandmother.
