Hilgeth appears as an assertive, cheerful dragon when one first meets her, but those who know her well can see a different side to her. She has the habit of recusing herself, a habit that stems from her frustration at being unable to find her charge.

Hilgeth originally founded the clan in the hopes that it would help her find her charge, as her decades of roaming the world yielded no results. Because of her time spent traveling, Hilgeth knows a little about everything, but most avoid asking her questions because of the bitterness evident in her responses.

Clan policy dictates that anything new is to be brought to her attention immediately, for obvious reasons. Travelers often are flattered, or annoyed, that they cannot move forward with their plans until the Clanmother meets them in person, and combs through their possessions. The young dragons of the clan find this incredibly irritating.

Hilgeth is currently traveling on her own, apart from Merris, in the hopes that she can take some time to herself while forging her own path to her charge.

Hilgeth has always cared for Merris, and enjoyed his company, advice and protection, but she dislikes being described as the sole reason for all his achievements. She knows Merris doesn't see her as a trophy, but she sometimes feels this way when he mentions how he was always at her side, as though she is nothing more than a bragging right.

While her view of her mate is complicated at the current time, Hilgeth remains loyal to him, and does still love him. She hopes in their time apart, they can grow enough to have a more balanced relationship when they reunite.

Hilgeth wishes she could be happy for her daughter, but behind her eager acceptance, and her smiles, she is incredibly jealous of her daughter's status as a guardian. Like Merris, Nelan was able to find her charge with almost no effort, and this similarity infuriates her mother.

Hilgeth tends to keep any interactions with her daughter brief and civil, so she can escape before her emotions overwhelm her. She feels incredibly guilty for feeling this way, but can't seem to rid herself of her envious thoughts.

Her best friend, Eredia is someone that Hilgeth wishes she could be. The Imperial seems to have boundless energy, optimism and knowledge.

When there were less members in the clan, Hilgeth found herself keeping Eredia company at almost every hour of the day, talking as they worked or made plans. Over time, however, as Hilgeth has seen herself largely become unneeded within her own clan, she has begun to resent Eredia. What was once a happy friendship has come to taste bitter in Hilgeth's mouth.

Sometimes she wishes Eredia wouldn't be so damn happy all the time.
