Mura opened her eyes once the thumping, crashing, and clattering stopped. The Ridgeback was on her back over the table, spines stabbed into the table like so many knives, eyes open and jaw offset. The last impulse of defense or attack quivered through her tail and leg, and then she was still.

“Grandma?” Mura whispered. “Is… is that you?”

Grandma Cas looked up, panting, almost snarling in her smile. “Yes, Mura, dear?” Grandma Cas was a Ridgeback, too, and even without the blood streaking her face, neck, chest, she was the most hideous and horrifying monster Mura had ever seen.

I just want to, you know… borrow her. Mura shuddered at the last words she’d heard the Ridgeback say before the fight, and directed her attention from the vacant eyes staring at a horizon no living thing could see back to Grandma Cas. “Can we go?”

“Oh, yes. Of course.” She made no move to go, instead reaching into the newly-punched hole in the chest of her latest former-enemy. As if reaching for the cookie in a jar, Grandma Cas withdrew the heart of the opponent who, as far as Mura could tell, hadn’t put up much of a fight. “I just want to borrow this,” she whispered over the body, dropped the heart, and walked past Mura on her way out of the house.

Mura slithered as quickly as she could after her. She got outside of the house, back into the rain. As always, Grandma Cas had somewhere she was going, pulled by some invisible string that Mura couldn’t find within to care about anymore. Still, Mura hurried up beside her. “Where are we going?”

“We must go find Lev, of course,” Grandma Cas said. “He’ll be terribly hungry. Missing lunch, you know.”

Caspian loved being a mother, and she loved being a grandmother. When the little hatchlings in her care ask about their multitudinous grandfathers (most of which Caspian has nothing interesting to say), she tells them she loved being in love, too. After all, why shouldn’t she have so many wonderful little grandhatchlings to love?

However great a strength love is, it is also a great weakness. Under her watch, one of her grandhatchlings perished in an attack by a terrible black creature. He was fourteen years old. After returning the living hatchings back to their parents, they said she was never the same again. She set out looking for the hatchling she lost, though she would never find him, taking odd jobs along the way doing similar things for other dragons who had lost things. Every success in her new career put her closer to madness. She still could not find the one thing she wanted to find.

It wasn’t until she received a note from her son that he couldn’t find his daughter and wondered if she was with her that what was left of her mind cracked. She rescued her granddaughter, but couldn’t save herself. Anything that threatened her family from then on was as good as dead, and she was willing and able to do it. Out of some sense of guilt or compassion, Mura continued on with Caspian, thinking she could somehow protect her. Of course, it was nonsense. It was everyone else that needed protection from Caspian. Her moods swung with alarming regularity, often resulting in damaged property and unaccountable scratches and scrapes that even Caspian didn’t know the origin of.

Caspian’s granddaughter is nevertheless the only thing that keeps her somewhat sane. If Mura can convince her that somedragon isn’t a threat to her, they’re safe for the time being. Mura spends most of her time trying to convince Caspian that her brother is gone and it’s not her fault, but Caspian will hear none of it. She has a score to settle, and if she has to kill and die to get there, then so be it.

   » Mura at all costs
════════════════════════
.
Mura is a beautiful and delicate thing in the eyes of her grandmother. Since her brother’s death, she’s been despondent and different, as her other family will say. Perhaps understandably, she doesn’t like to talk about it. Caspian isn’t much one for talking anymore, so doesn’t think to ask. All the same, she’s happy to rip to pieces anything that threatens to shatter this already broken glass.

   » Omega at any price
════════════════════════
.
It was a dark night filled with fireflies and sparklers the night that Omega oozed into the town, drawn by the sounds of laughter and the smell of life. The festival was cut short, most of the town’s denizens destroyed or devoured before the night was over. As usual, one cannot cut a shadow. However, on that night, Omega made not one but two new enemies who have nothing but his end in mind.

SCRAPJACK - hunter

aRiNXAF.png
As payment for one of her tracing jobs, Caspian accepted a scrapmetal tracker she calls Scrapjack. Scrapjack is a bit dumb, not usually fetching the items that were thrown, but his uncanny sense for scrap metal is nonetheless intact. He’s also good in a pinch for tracking down objects of a certain size or shape, helping Caspian in her work as long as she has a similar item to show him to look for. He cannot differentiate the smells of dragons, though, so is of little use in finding them. Oddly enough, Scrapjack also has an excellent sense of mood. Though nothing to anyone’s knowledge will snap her out of a tirade, it’s a good idea to leave when Scrapjack curls up on his bed and hides his nose under his tail.
