S U M M A R Y
Rodel is an enigmatic figure in the clan, known to few and understood by even fewer. He is no doubt influential, having ties to many powerful dragons, but what he does with this influence is spoken only in back rooms and hushed voices. In secret, he works towards the resurrection of Apophyillite, a dragon who was loved by many long ago and lost tragically, taken by a lightning strike over a decade ago. Rodel has pledged himself to her return, and is willing to do anything to achieve it. His works center around raising funding to support the laying of as many eggs as it takes to create the perfect child, a gateway who will be sacrificed for Apophyllite's return. The other hatchlings are of no concern to him, though members of clan leadership have held him responsible for their training and education before they are sent off into the world without purpose, rejects of his grand design. Austemper pledged her loyalty to Rodel and his cause, up until the line she knows she cannot cross. She silently pines for a love he does not feel he can allow himself to give her, and hopes to better him so that he no longer toes that line she can't follow him past. |

What is their General Premise?
Rodel is in the business of making things happen, including things that perhaps shouldn't. Dragons come to him for a number of things, typically surrounding the use of poisons and shadows and blades. All of this, though, serves the same end: reviving from the dead his first love, Apophyllite. She was a shimmering mirror from the early days of the clan who has since been lost to the world. He is not alone in his endeavor, having drawn the support of some of her adult children and other dragons close to her, as well as a very well-compensated couple who are funded based on their genetics in order to produce the perfect replica of Apophyllite. When this child is born and is ready, it will be sacrificed and transformed into a gateway for Apophyllite's reintroduction into the world. As you may guess, this operation is rather covert within the clan, and though authorities may have suspicions of what all has been taking place, many of these dragons do have day jobs, and the clan leadership themselves were also close to Apophyllite.
What do they have nightmares about?
Failing. Failing Apophyllite, himself, and all the dragons he's brought with him. Ending up alone. Right now he thinks that "alone" means "without Her," but that can be changed.
What do they secretly yearn for?
He wants to be someone's One Devotion, and to be able to devote himself to them in turn. Apophyllite had many mates in her life, and though Rodel loved her completely, he always struggled internally with that aspect of her. Surely, being the one to bring her back would make him her One True, right? (Wrong. She'd be appalled to see all the things he'd done in her name. MOVE ON BRO!!!)
What kinds of dragons have they found attractive before?
Well, I wonder. The things he found attractive were also the things that made it difficult for him. Apo was very strong willed, and flourished in the company of those who loved her. She was abundantly social, she loved being around people who loved her, and was very loud and strong. She could never be happy with just One person to love.
What secrets do they not want anyone to know?
He keeps many secrets, and would regret most any of them coming into full light, but one thing he's extra hesitant to admit even to himself is that he doesn't really know who he is outside of his devotion to Apophyllite. It's a big part of why he so desperately feels that he needs her back.
Would they rather be in control or surrender control?
Rodel needs control. He's in charge of a whole secret operation, and sees success in his main endeavor as being very contingent on keeping his control over others. Plus, it is undoubtable that there is some sense of control he'd have over Apo herself once he's brought her back from the dead. He wants to be with her, not over her, but don't think he'd be above using that to try and prevent her from leaving.
Who do they hate most in the world?
His clarity of purpose doesn't allow for hate. He'd much rather not burn bridges unless he absolutely had to, as you never know who will come in handy to call upon later.
Who do they love most in the world?
If you asked him, he'd tell you that there is no one left in Sornieth that he loves. But he fully intends on changing that. Little does he know, he's probably correct, but not in the way he thinks.
What are they most ashamed of?
Rodel has done a lot of bad in his life, but what he considers the worst of it is how close he's gotten with other dragons to manipulate then for an advantage. He can at least recognize the hypocrisy in how he feels about Apo being with others and then him turning around to do the same, but he tries to convince himself it's all for her. Sometimes there are only so many ways to convince important dragons to turn a blind eye. Important to note that in his head this is worse than all the murder, deceit, manipulation, and child sacrifice stuff.
What about themselves are they most proud of?
He is proud of how far he's come, and what all he's been able to accomplish through just his own means. He's an influential dragon, and he gives himself credit for that.
