Biography
Augustus'Umbra
Lore
. |
The night sky was a dark sea of twinkling stars with very little whisps of cloud. The wind was little more than a teasing breeze that the ocean waves only mildly danced to. Despite the temperate and amicable atmosphere, Augustus'Umbra rustled his wings and shifted on his paws. His dark gaze, normally set in a belligerent frown, was now softened by his unease and rampaging mind. An amused, feminine snort broke him out of his musings. The source was the towering matriarch, Magna'Mater, that stood only a tail length away from him on a crystalline shard just paw lengths from the sea. Her white scales, so starkly different from his own, shone with a brilliance that rivaled the stars above. Her warm voice, heavy as if it carried the weight of the world, asked, "Have I caught you off guard? Is my offer so strange?" Augustus'Umbra swallowed his rash response before it could break out and make him look like a fool. He quickly shook his head to the negative. His mind reeled. He turned his head to cough so that he could buy himself time. His feathers wilted when he saw how amused Magna'Mater looked at him. She was supernaturally perceptive and sometimes her talents chilled him to his core. It was that smile. No other dragons, save for the weirdos that ran with this behemoth before him, ever graced him with a friendly or kind smile. What a strange lot. And he loved them all for it, quirks and all, as if they were his spiritual brothers and sisters. Augustus'Umbra fell onto his haunches and stared at Magna'Mater. A sudden sense of helplessness began to well up within his heart. How was he to respond? Why couldn't some intelligent words finally answer her? Maybe his silence was making her nervous as well? He could see the faintest flicker of doubt beginning to darken the edges of her sagacious countenance. Speak you fool! Augustus'Umbra shook his head violently and stamped his right forepaw onto the crystal platform that he stood on. "No!" Eyes bulging, Augustus'Umbra coughed and supplied with a gentler, "No, no. Not strange... actually it is quite logical yet not... It's just... This - ascension - is offered to me? Perplexing to say the least... There are others that are... stronger... in the arts that I learned from the Shadow Mother's domain..." Magna'Mater produced a thoughtful hum. She turned away from the ocean and stepped down from the ledge she had been standing on. She stood closer to Augustus'Umbra with her great wings obscuring the moon from his sight. "Mere parlor tricks. None of those you speak of are you Augustus," she answered, "They flit around like little sprites, capering to see to their imagined interpretation of their Shadow Mother's whims. They do not know the meaning of true darkness. You have seen it, felt it, despaired in its grip... almost died under its weight... until you seized the innate strength that dwelled inside your soul. From what I've seen, you are among the strongest of the Shadow Mother's children. You are a survivor and that will never change." Augustus'Umbra watched Magna'Mater step further away, only to turn and face him once again. However, this time, the pale light of the moon was framed by the sweeping reach of her titanic bat-like wings. The moonlight caught in the crystalline growths that pierced her gorgeous purple mantle and hood, illuminating her with gentle light. Augustus'Umbra couldn't help the smile that broke out across his face. His only thought was, oh she is good. Augustus'Umbra rolled his shoulders and wings into a shrug. He closed his eyes to savor the gentle glow of the moon's light. His voice struggled with the mirth that he felt, "Haha... I can see why so many are besotted with you... Even the Shadow Mother's whispers sound like hoarse demands from a spoiled hatchling... Unlike the Shadow Mother... you empower others through your encouragement and guide them to the strength they needed and possessed all along... Although one could argue that your methods are unorthodox. That poor fool Tacet'Mare is a prime example." Augustus'Umbra shook his head to the negative. "Shade's Ruin am I grateful I wasn't born into that useless Tidelord's domain. The gluttonous miasma of shadow is enough for me... but... Let me ask you this My Lady. Why are you selecting me for this curse?" A more thoughtful hum rumbled deep within Magna'Mater's chest. "So you've already realized one of the risks that comes with what I offer. That is precisely one of the reasons why I proposed your ascension to my husband. Augustus, your perceptive and doubting nature has forced you to approach most challenges with some degree of critical thinking. That critical thinking will help you work through the psychological challenges that will come from the extended life span that we offer. You won't just be a lone mage left to wander without a home. You will be freed from the mortal yolk and forced to endure the long flow of time as a guide and leader of the mortals. You will be granted the power and freedom to make your own home, should you choose. And should the future I envision come to pass, you will become shadow incarnate. Just as the others I've selected will blossom into their domains, you will all ascend into the forces of nature I've seen roaring within your souls." Augustus'Umbra's eyes were fixed on her. Pure awe stunned his immediate response. "By the twelve... you're forging a pantheon... So is the endgame the eventual departure from Sornieth?" It was Magna'Mater's turn to shrug. Her great wings creaked from the motion and her countenance was relaxed. "Perhaps, if the pantheon eventually agrees to the notion. It is my hope that such is the case. The timeline where our eventual departure is ultimately decided against is a dead and sad echo of the true line. But that is a beast to wrap one's head around and this information should be enough for your question." Augustus'Umbra nodded his head slowly to the positive. "If we leave Sornieth, will we build our own world?" Magna'Mater smiled. "That I can guarantee. Oh what a thrilling and beautiful portion of the timeline that age is. It will be a struggle, make no mistake, and it will not come to pass for an extremely long time. Sornieth after all is the training ground. My husband and I must ensure that the lessons needed are learned." Augustus'Umbra answered, "Makes sense. So where do I sign up My Lady?" | . |
Additional Information
.... The Titan Age The Heart of Shadow - Titan of Darkness - Master Illusionist |
. . . . |
The Titan Age Augustus'Umbra was targeted as a young dragon because he stood out like a sore thumb in the Tangled Wood. He was cast out of his birth nest because of his bright scales and golden accents. That never keep him down very long. He was quick to take on learning magic in order to survive. His mind was sharp and his affinity to magic was ferociously strong. He grasped the darkest of magics with ease and even learned to use his appearance to his advantage. His bright scales are a means to distract anything that potentially means him harm, and he utilizes it. Before he was found by Magna'Mater, he was a rogue sorcerer with a bone to pick with every dragon and beastclan that did him wrong. The witnesses of his actions, few as they are, can only say that it was like the mightiest shadow creature they've ever seen bearing down on the target of Augustus'Umbra's wrath. He has often been accused of being a part of the Shade, which he will respond with an amused snort. After he was found by Magna'Mater, he discovered and learned that there was more to life than his vengeance. He learned about love, camaraderie, loyalty, and most important of all - forgiveness. Augustus'Umbra struggles the most with forgiveness. His mate Aequum'Musa, the one he calls his beloved muse, has been instrumental in taming Augustus'Umbra's temper. She was the one to show him true love and he will devote himself to her for the rest of their lives. Augustus'Umbra applies his talents to protecting Sanguinem Luna clan as their Master Illusionist. However if a dragon were to look in his shadow, they will catch a glimpse of a sneering monster just waiting for the excuse to bear its fangs once again. Unwittingly he became a guardian of Luna'Spiritus during one of his patrol rounds, who in turn grew to be his apprentice, but as time passed on he didn't regret taking her under his wing as his student. They helped each other to heal and that bond has only solidified Augustus'Umbra's loyalty to Sanguinem Luna Clan. They all may have their problems; but they were the first dragons to ever look at him and love him, not pity or mock him. The Pantheon Age Augustus'Umbra is asleep within a crystal inside Titan's Rest during this age. The New Age Augustus'Umbra is asleep within a crystal inside Titan's Rest during this age. Familiar The Spirit of Shadow that follows Augustus'Umbra just materialized one day after Augustus'Umbra mastered a difficult spell. It was attracted to the power that he wielded and has often granted him its strength to amplify his dark spells. Augustus'Umbra appreciates the company of the silent creature. He will often brush its mane as a way to calm himself after a long and trying day. His Ancient Form None. Customization Goals |
