Theme Song

Sanguimancer has set out to learn all there is to know about the forbidden dark magic, sanguimancy. Because it is forbidden to practice, due to the amount of blood one uses in this particular craft, not much is known or documented about it. Sanguimancer wishes to change that. She wants to become the lead researcher and of this craft. She is so committed to her study of this magic that she has forgotten her real name. She is simply called 'Sanguimancer' now. That is all you need to know. Though the craft she is studying is a kind of magic, her approach to understanding it and document it is quite scientific. She considers herself neither a mage nor a scientist, but something in-between; a little bit of both. Her feathers, once pure white, have been stained over the years with big blotches of red. These aren't ordinary stains, these are the result of the magic she uses corrupting her and claiming her, just as she claimed it. She wonders how long it will be before there is no white left, and what that will mean.

However, sanguimancy is difficult to use. In order to practice blood magic, one must have large quantities of blood readily available. Fresh is better in most cases. Over the course of her studies, she has had several test subjects. Always bogsneaks. Why? They were created in Baldwin's Bubbling Brew, not by any of the dragon deities. They shouldn't even count as dragons. They were created by science, not by a God, and their purpose for existing is to help science. So by taking bogsneaks to use as her test subjects and the source of blood she needs for her studies, she is simply helping them fulfill their purpose for existing. If they do not desire to help her studies, and they rarely do, she just uses magical bloodshard chains to bind and control them. These poor dim-witted creatures know not how valuable their lives will be to her research, and to the understanding of sanguimancy as a whole!

Her last test subject, Nimbus, met an... unfortunate end. He managed to break free of Sanguimancer's chains and escape. Sanguimancer suspected he was aided by her apprentice, who had a soft spot for this particular subject. So, she had to hunt him down where he had fled to, and found that a clan in the Sea of a Thousand Currents was sheltering him. Sanguimancer quickly and quietly dispatched him using a spell. She couldn't have him telling anyone else of her research. They might try to stop her from practicing the forbidden magic, or take credit for her findings! But, this left her without a test subject, and a traitorous apprentice. She couldn't have that! She'd have to find somewhere new to live and to continue her studies, and she would also need to find a new subject to continue her research.

So, she left her old clan in the Sunbeam Ruins and searched for somewhere new to settle. She found the most curious clan in the Starfall Isles, harboring two creatures of the undead, a swamp monster possessing the corpse of a hatchling, and an ancient, malicious spirit possessing a child. Surely they wouldn't mind her joining them, so long that she kept her studies a secret. Perhaps she could one day use her research to free the hatchling from the ancient spirit's control, or dip her toes into necromancy enough to fully reanimate the three undead coatls living here. Either way, these inhabitants of the clan were too interesting to just pass by. No, she wants to study them and figure out how they got here and what happened to get them to this point.
