"The cogs in the walls of Keane’s workshops were always turning, sparking with some new energy or project. Right now his desk is strewn with twice-redrawn blueprints and chicken scratch calculations, held down with paperweights made of various discarded gears. The alchemist himself is leaning over some bubbling beakers and test tubes in the far corner of the room, the coils embedded along his spine arcing sparks when his claws touch the glass. A cold smile curls across his face, and he scribbles something down on a notepad.”

Keane always had a mind for compounds and mechanics. At a young age he was encouraged to become a scientist and was given an apprenticeship under the High Alchemist herself. But after coming to terms with his own identity, he found no home in her workshop - the place was stuffy with prejudices and old ways of thinking, and filled with shattered idols. And so the disillusioned Keane packed his things and headed off to establish his own workshop - one that would be so big and so incredible that the High Alchemist would have to admit he was a gifted mechanic.

And so he travelled, finding friends along the way with similar stories, and together they found the small clan by the river. He set up shop in a cavernous old cave and his itch to create grew tenfold. Every new idea became a possibility, every option a path to success. Nothing was off-limits, not even himself, and he used his skills to make himself a body he was proud to have. While few people can really understand what he’s saying most of the time and at times his focus on his work borders on obsessive, there are a select few who can pry him from his work tables for a meal and a reminder of why he stayed at this clan in the first place: the good company.
