Biography
BOATSWAIN
"Breach! Breach from below! All guards to the hold! Alert the Captain!" The Captain must mind all ends of the Horde of the Hull, not just the crew responsible for keeping the Hull in the sky - that duty falls to the youngest of the crew proper. Jynnajo considers him a glorified cabin boy, always looking to Loquaesa for guidance. Ayumra does not seem to care, so long as the Hull flies. Caddock patrols the Hull, minding vital supplies, changing out worn rigging, minding what knots must be kept tight. Still - though he does not have Pacorro's knowledge of the great Engine, nor Jynnajo's swiftness with a cannon, Caddock always knows what is needed, and those of the Hull have learned that it is most unwise to ignore him. |
|
Though none of the Hull knew his father (his mother carried his egg, to hatch him in the warmth of the Engine) Caddock developed bright scales and hidden gills soon after hatching, which would be very useful underwater, if Caddock did not so loathe water. From the moment he cracked his shell, he has always preferred the earth and the sky, content to stay at his mother's side, or else wander the dark innards of the great ship which Loquaesa commands. He loathes baths, and frequently smells. Despite being one of the youngest members of the crew, Caddock knows the Hull like he knows his own feathers. He still isn't sure why Loquaesa chose him as Boatswain, when Ayumra's mutters and Pacorro's joyous shrieking brought the great Engine to singing and lifted the Hull into the sky. Still, Caddock loves the Hull, the sound of claws against wood, the slow tilt of the canting deck, and he would never dream of leaving it. The young Skydancer takes to his duties with a boundless enthusiasm and an attention to detail that borders on paranoid. Though he doesn't like water, watery creatures seem to like him. Caddock has several pet frogs and toads, which are always perched upon him. He avoids Nephtys - while they have similar relationships with their pets, a few too many of her snakes eye his pets quite hungrily, despite her assurances of their obedience. |
