He doesn't understand why Alkaid wants to stay in the lair all day. There's so much to do out there, so much to explore! This is, of course, much to the chagrin of Mom and Dad and his caretakers, who find him - and sometimes Alkaid clinging fearfully to his coat - running around the lair or even outside, only to be caught by some other grown-up and herded back inside. Hmmph. At least they let him out sometimes to watch the sky, but apparently it's 'dangerous' for hatchlings to be outside unattended. Uther usually spends his time out with his cousin Xylona, mapping the area around the clan. He's seen the writing on the walls, and sometimes Xylona shares his concerns; the clan's growing, quite a lot. Especially when it was originally a two-dragon rain shelter. The Driftwood Drag won't be enough forever, and it's only sensible to look for places to expand into.

When he's not out mapping, or sitting next to his tiny brother in the nightly feasts, he's spending his free time with Uncle Bahram, listening to the skydancer's stories of his travels across Sorneith, and the kind receptions he's had. It makes his heart sink; so many people of all breeds and species and elements, and they're just dying over and over and over. Can anything stop this madness?
Mapping out the Foxfire Bramble with Xylona is a true nightmare. But he, she, and more importantly Selriona, all agree that it's something that should be done sooner rather than later, for when the clan gets so large.

Whenever he's not, though, and not watching his talonok friend Markok practice his acrobatics, he's stopping by his brother's library and leafing through the scant pawful of medicinal books they'd scavenged. He's not interested in healing magic.
