Mate: Nameless, once named Kirea
Alkaid's half of the nest - well, 'half', he was smaller than his brother - was littered with tomes and maps and history books, so much that Aunt Lyra joked he didn't even need any bedding. Ha ha. He liked busying himself with them, reading over the lines and characters and plots, even though most of the books were literally his size. He doesn't spend all his time like that, though, especially not when Uther can pull him out to play.
Over time, the clan's gathered quite an assortment of books in the hoard, from scary hatchling stories to cookbooks to atlases. With the help of some of the clan's tundras, especially his bro Uther, he's cleared out a section of the lair for a library, branching off from the hoard. It's there that Alkaid spends most of his time, organizing and reorganizing the books, and keeping track of who has what when in case anyone needs to share.
With the elder members of the clan moving away from maintaining the hoard, Alkaid saw fit to join it up with his library. Some reorganizing was required, but with the additional space afforded to him by the caverns of Wispwillow Grove, Alkaid soon had the new and improved hoard/library up and running!

There's a lot to do with this stuff. Mostly he spends time teaching their resident coatls paw language. Partly so they can talk with his breed. Mostly so that Isabeau can talk to anyone at all. Poor thing.
