A pillar of military discipline to parallel Alacrith, Vorlen is the operative decision maker on all things martial. His stoic expression and unflappable demeanor shapes his reputation as a fearless and judicious leader, aloof sometimes to the point of coldness. Uncannily in sync with his partners, he never disagrees with the other members of the command team in front of his clanmates. Privately, however, he’s concerned with morality to an obsessive degree, and he constantly worries about the consequences of his clan’s actions - whether those actions actually warrant it or not.

Vorlen’s stress lines and dark circles have only deepened over the years as Clan Sunsharp’s reputation - and responsibility - grows. Already plagued by nightmares and insomnia, the workload adds to his chronically exhausted temperament. In the past, his unconventional fighting style and endless patience have made him an excellent, yet challenging mentor, but he rarely has time for one-on-one training these days. As operations in Clan Sunsharp have tightened, Vorlen’s time with acolytes in the sparring ring has become virtually nonexistent; he now leaves that responsibility to the Vanguard.

origins.
Vorlen received his combat training against his will, having been gripped by a violent Shade possession for most of his youth. He remembers little of his past, but he has retained the basest instincts instilled during his formative years: how to fight, how to kill, and how to run. A chance encounter with Alacrith, Cerne, and Pathos freed him of his curse - Pathos exorcised the darkness from his body, Alacrith fought the creature off, and Cerne branded Vorlen with protective runes. His personhood secured for the first time in his life, Vorlen pledged his allegiance to the fledgling clan and proceeded to help shape it into what it is today.

Lately, the effects of his possession have begun to catch up to him, and his health has suffered as a result. Clan Sunsharp sees less and less of the combat director as his condition worsens; he spends a lot of his time sheltering in his den or the library, hiding from the light.
