Once there was a dark yet beautiful dragon who roamed between the Sunbeam Ruins and the Tangled Wood. Her features were never closely observed, but the power she radiated gave her the impression of beauty. She had two sides to her -the good and the bad - and she would ask you for a place to stay. If you refused, she’d curse you and take your most precious goods while you slept. If you let her stay, she would bless your Clan with healthy hatchlings and fruitful hunting missions. The good side of her was wildly sought after. Clan leaders would send their most skilled ambassadors and warriors to ask her to come to their Clan. If she refused, they would sometimes forcefully drag her back, and she would be forced to grant them good fortune for their “hospitality”. The most paranoid of Clans kept her chained to boulders or trees during her stay, or locked her up in cellars. This made the dragon unbelievably annoyed. She became a rare sight, and started to disguise herself as an old hag or a young hatchling, anything except a fit and familiar-looking dragon. Gradually, the common folk caught on and began to take in every stray dragon they found on their territory. While this improved the general hospitality of an area, it didn’t stop them from locking up their catches in their cellars. Finally, the two-sided dragon couldn’t travel a single week before being locked in a cellar. Using up all her magic stores, she split herself into two identical beings. She now has no magic, but that would be for the best. Now, whenever a Clan took a half of her in, there would be a 50% chance they’d get the bad side, who wasn’t obliged to bless them. The news spread and the Clans quickly stopped looking for dark and beautiful wanderers. They didn’t want to risk it. Rowanna was the good half. Because she had no magic, her glamours were lessened, and she wasn’t accepted into Clans as easily and as much as before. She returned to her old ways of approaching any Clan deemed pitiable enough. She may have had no magic, but she had wisdom. She shared this wisdom with the Clans she visited, and they learned how to defend themselves and grow stronger, without any blessings. When you see little green caterpillars stuck to your surroundings, it is a sign that she is about to visit. Free food, and free advice! |
