“I am here still waiting. I still have my doubts. I am damaged at best, like you’ve already figured out.” Fire blazed through the forest, destroying everything in its path. The flames from the canopy caused fire to rain down on those unfortunate enough to still be inside what use to be such a protection. She ran, as the fire above prevented her from taking off, and gasped for air as smoke filled her lungs. Please make it stop she thought. Suddenly, she was awake. It was just another nightmare. “In the pain, there is healing. In your name, I find meaning” She jumped as she noticed another dragon sitting there watching her, but her fears diminished when she noticed the lavender fireflies circling around him. He looked exhausted, but there was something else in his eyes that she knew all too well, which was broken sadness. She slowly approached him, and he seemed to be fascinated by the rose fireflies circling around her. “Tried my best to be guarded, I’m an open book instead” As she sat next to him, their fireflies glowed brighter illuminating the inside of the willow tree in purple and pink light. They both watched in awe as the lavender and rose fireflies began to circle around the both of them. Her mother always told her that fireflies only served as guardians to guide and protect those who really needed it. For the first time in a long time, she felt at peace watching the fireflies dance around her and this strange dragon she just met. She could see in his eyes that he too had faced a difficult past. She wanted to hear his story, and she wanted to tell him hers. “I still see your reflection inside my eyes. That are looking for purpose, there still looking for life” |
