Clan Leader and Inspiration to All

Maybe Spirit was hatched from an egg scavenged out of a heap of trash, or maybe he was spontaneously created by the gods, spawned in the dredges of the Wandering Contagion, but he prefers to keep the past in the past, focusing instead from where his next meal comes or how he will counter the next strike against him. He doesn't focus too much on politics or good and bad, or even planning for the future. Mostly he just scrounges around for what he needs here and now and reacts to whatever is happening as it's happening. If he needs something, he'll go for it, but often times he passes when others ask for his help unless it benefits him. In a sense, he's more of a mascot for the lair than a leader. Sometimes, he misses things he probably shouldn't have missed, big things like assaults on the lair from enemies, or mutant fauna attacking in rabid crazes.

As the clan grows and the lair expands and moves deeper into the heart of the Scarred Wasteland, it is a testament to Spirit's generosity (and inattentiveness) that they do not leave carcasses of their enemies and straggler dragons in their wake. Or maybe someone is cleaning up after them.

The Scarred Wasteland is not an inherently friendly place. It grows dragons and creatures alike with descriptions like "feral" and "violent" and "mutant." Across the majority of the ever-expanding territory, the land is made of a spongy, decaying peat that always gives off warm temperatures, stirring sickly hot winds that help to spread contagion. The lands support scavengers, loners, and the diseased, so unless you were raised within the lands and have a natural immunity or high-tolerance for the many rampant pathogens, it's best not to eat anything, whether it's a fresh kill, a meal sold or given in a settlement, or something found lying on the ground. Visitors are strongly advised to bring their own sustenance, protected by strong magics, and encouraged still to find more outside of the Plague territories after a week of travel.

Due to the Plaguebringer's experiments in the Wyrmwound, the land is infested with calamities and contagion, viruses and disease loose upon the lands in many forms. It is not uncommon for these to manifest in creature-like shapes that fly and crawl through the lands. Maybe they were once those creatures before their forms were completely altered by infection. Or maybe plague magic created them from scratch. Whatever their real origins, these plague bombs go forth and seek a host anywhere one can be found. In this lair, such infections are considered blessings from the Plaguebringer herself and are glorified. Though the dragon infected will surely go mad or die, they praise their luck and share their blessing any way they can. Other lairs with less fortitude have been completely wiped out in this way, but the Blood-Baring Clan has shown a resilience of health.

This clan itself mainly resides on the border between the Abiding Boneyard and the Rotrock Rim. The dragons prefer the protection of the enormous osseous remains that give the arid wastes their name. They neither hide nor run from the dangers of the Wastelands, instead embrace them and use what they can to their advantage. Rather than wander around aimlessly, they have conceived an open-air territory surrounded by a nearly-impassable wall of jagged bones. Small creatures and dragons are able to fit through the dense forest of bones, but most adult dragons are incapable without severe damage. The same is said for those in flight, either landing or leaving. Visitors and residents alike must enter and exit through designated cleared areas or land outside of the territory, or risk ripping their wings and bodies to shreds on the sharp ends of the bones. For further defense within the lair, walls that define individual resting places and designate rooms are created through less-dense osseous structures with spaces for openings that allow passage. Some dragons screen their personal territory in fabrics and leathers, giving minimal privacy and allowing for covers over doorways.

Those light-sensitive dragons that have taken up residence within this lair were granted permission to dig special chambers beneath the lair in which to hide from the baking sunlight. As their ranks grow, they also continue to expand deeper beneath the rotting ground, but the more they dig, the more they risk their chambers caving in from the weight of those on top.
