Biography

====
Greenstripe Amaranth Bamboo Cluster

“Rook? Yeah, I heard’a Rook. What about it?” Rexley dwarfed the little dragon that sat before him, scribbling on parchment. His voice is rough, contradicting the clan he speaks of. “Well, my mama knows a bit more than me, on account of she knew a coupl’a dragons from there once.” His accent bespeaks a history in the Icefield, or perhaps the Expanse. “Nice clan, nice dragons. Real pretty, I think, too. Peaceful n’ diverse, a lot like us, really.” He gestured with a long claw to another dragon standing some distance away. “Try talkin’ to Mama. She knows a good bit.”

---

“Ah, Rook.” Adrelintha played with a few of the chess pieces that lay before her, twirling them in her claws. “I was profoundly impressed by their craftsmanship and sense of… aesthetic.” She pauses before moving a knight to corner the author’s queen. The author fidgets in their seat, continuing to take notes. “At first, you’d think they wouldn’t resemble the chess piece they’re named for. The rook as a piece in chess… it is sturdy, reliable; these dragons of the wind and sky, though beautiful, appear wispy and capricious.” She laughed. “Of course, that is not so. You know, the Winter Court keeps quite a record on such things.”

---

The Winter Court was not half as inviting as the Summer Court. Maxwell was kind enough, but neurotic. “Er, well…” He sifted through a sheaf of papers. “I’ve got a bit here. I was recording some of their transactions through the Cloudsong markets.” Maxwell handed the author a few pages of (very boring-looking) records. “But that isn’t the whollest or best representation of their clan, so to speak. The dragons of Rook… they’re an interesting phenomenon. Their government is matriarchal in form, and the dragons that inhabit it seem to be either carefully selected for their colors or taken in on a whim. I haven’t written much on the subject-- thank you for taking up that task for me!”

---

The author sat before their desk, compiling the various notes and dialogues they had recorded. Despite the volume of their records, the story wasn’t quite complete.

The resolution to journey to Clan Rook was a quick and easy one. The peaceful atmosphere, the beauty all throughout the clan… the author was sure they’d find something worth writing about.
