"When you love what you have, you have everything you need."
Mai knew nothing of hardships growing up. Hatched and raised in a large, comfortable clan in the Sunbeam Ruins, she never worried about the wellbeing of herself or her clan for a moment. They were blessed by the Lightweaver, and prospered endlessly. Mai never had to find a proper role or place in the clan. After all, with so many dragons around, not many roles were open for her. She didn't mind too much, though. It allowed her the free time she needed. Mai was taught from a young age to be a proper, intelligent dragon. She read poetry and stories, and took walks across the ruins to feel the blessed light shining down on her. She would pray to the Lightweaver alongside her clan and avidly worshiped Her in her daily life. She enjoyed her life, it was comfortable and pleasant, and she was happy. The idea of leaving never dawned on her until she heard rumors about a new clan forming in the Sunbeam Ruins. She had heard whispers of an Oracle of the Lightweaver being born, but to hear that he, not only truly existed, but had helped refugee dragons form their own clan surprised and delighted her. No one really knew what had happened to these dragons, or where they came from, but Mai was determined to find out. So, she set off to find this clan, no matter how long it took her. Which, luckily, it didn't take all that long. Mai was greeted and welcomed by Rasul, who had heard whispers of her arrival. Mai was startled, to say the least. She was face to face with the Oracle of the Lightweaver, whom she wasn't even sure truly existed until now! Rasul led her to The Radiant Thunder, where she met their queen, Marhena. Mai was surprised to see she was a Plague dragon, and became even more perplexed about their origin. However, she feared pressing it, and simply asked to stay for a few days with them. Marhena, rather warmly, agreed. |

The more time she spent with this new clan, the more complete and at home she felt. And the longer she stayed, the further back she pushed the day of her departure and return to her home. Over time, she slowly learned the story of their origins through Amaia and Rasul, and Mai felt further compelled to stay. And so, mind made up, she sent a letter back home as a farewell, and settled permanently into The Radiant Thunder. The other dragons were beyond thrilled to see her stay, as they had grown quite accustomed to her bright and warm nature. Finding her place in the clan, however, was a bit harder than Mai anticipated. She never had to in her old clan, so she wasn't quite sure she what she would be good at. And it wasn't until the first hatchlings came into the clan that it truly dawned on her. Mai had seen many dragons grow up in her clan, and helped several mothers with their hatchlings. She fell into the perfect role as their caretaker in her new clan, and she couldn't have been happier. Mai exudes a warm and pleasant aura almost constantly. She is sweet, kind, and compassionate to every dragon she meets. She trusts very easily, and her emotions are incredibly easy to read. But this open display causes her to be hurt rather easily, and so she is very fragile and doesn't take criticism of any kind well. However, her kindness is welcome by nearly every dragon in her clan. She goes out of her way to visit with others, or support them if she must, and her smile and bubbly laugh becomes infectious. She has a habit of spreading happiness wherever she goes. She grew up in a soft and comfortable life, and she doesn't understand hardships and pain the way that dragons like Amaia do. It troubles and confuses her, but Mai is determined to learn and understand on a deeper level so that, maybe one day, she can make Amaia smile too. A real, genuine one. Any free time she has, she spends reading various kinds of literature or poetry, leaving offerings for Lightweaver, or finding new ways to decorate their home. As her kindness is something she gives to all dragons, she has managed to make friends with many of them. She adores watching Hotaru's shows, gushing over Joan's newest completed crafts, or being left in awe by Stav's crafts. But, there are a few dragons she would consider very close friends. Mai idolized Rasul the moment she came to The Radiant Thunder, often trailing after him and hanging onto each of his words. She attended every prayer he led and accompanied him to leave offerings for Lightweaver whenever she could. Over time, this relationship became a close friendship, bonded over their shared devotion to Lightweaver and the prosperity of Light. They often share deep conversations about it, and Mai is more than happy to read things for him. She also has a close friendship with Everett, thanks to their shared love of literature, despite his incredibly messy way of note taking. Mai's partner is Zeno. When she first came to the clan, she was excited to meet the dragons that had formed it. But one particular dragon was adamant on avoiding her. And while she was uncertain as to why the Guardian didn't wish to speak with her, she was determined to. One day, they, quite literally, ran into one another. Taking the chance, Mai trilled about not knowing him nearly as well as the other dragons and dragged him off to share lunch with her. She was beyond thrilled to finally talk with him, and began to take quite a liking to the hardened dragon. Over time, the two became inseparable, and they married not long after Marhena and Nilam. Mai was just as happy to start a family of their own and she's an incredibly devoted and present mother. She checks up on her children daily, ensuring that they are well, despite them taking their separate paths now. Looking after hatchlings takes on a new meaning when you have fully grown children shaping their own destines in the world. Her relationship with Zeno has helped to strengthen her soft heart, though her fragility is still very evident, she does her best to be as strong as the dragons she cares for so deeply. |
