PERSONALITY
Arthas doesn't speak much. He doesn't see the need to waste his breath on words. When he does speak, it's to instruct his thrall, Apostasia, to discuss his studies with another faerie, or to incant a spell he found in some old book. He's not much of a fighter and cares little for what he has to do to get his way. Morality and ethics cause Arthas little concern; he doesn't feel remorse, and only wants the safety of his Queen-Mother and the solace of his studies.
APPEARANCE
Arthas chose the form of a Skydancer for the sole purpose of reading emotions. His colors have been warped and twisted by the darkness which he studies, forming irregular patterns and blotches all over his body. When he moves, these blotches seem to shimmer and break up his form in a rather disconcerting way. It's almost impossible at times to distinguish Arthas from a shadow.

BIOGRAPHY
There is an old faerie legend about a great warrior, a Prince of Faerie, who will overthrow the deities of Sornieth and steal their kingdoms. Growing up, Arthas dreamed of being this warrior. He even fulfilled three of the eighteen signs on the Prince's Path – the sign of conquest, where he overthrew a mighty clan and took their leader for his thrall, the sign of revival, where he survived at the brink of death on magic alone, and the sign of peril, where he willingly took on a challenge no other faerie of his court could face.

It was the sign of peril which led him astray. Though he completed his chosen task – the creation and murder of an Emperor dragon – he found himself far more interested in the magic behind the task instead of moving on. To create the monstrous beast, he had tapped into an ancient darkness that predated Sornieth itself. Arthas was intrigued by the darkness. He stopped following the Prince's Path and began to study this darkness in earnest, wishing to know more about what dragonkind calls “the Shade”.

Months after beginning his research, Arthas stumbled across a cave during a blizzard, and a mortal dragon named Apostasia who'd taken shelter there. After a short discussion with Apostasia about dark magic, Arthas turned and murdered the thrall he'd taken during the sign of conquest, and enthralled Apostasia in her place.

With Apostasia under his wing, Arthas finds his research is much smoother and easier. Mortal dragons have developed techniques that Arthas hadn’t thought of, allowing him to conserve his energy for the strength-intensive spells he’s not fond of. Apostasia’s personality agrees with him as well. She’s not chatty, just like him, and her deadpan quips about death appeal to his dark sense of humor.

Emrys and Arthas share a love of knowledge and a thirst for forbidden power. While Emrys seeks all knowledge and Arthas only concentrates on one facet of magic, they often meet to discuss ideas when Emrys is home in Castle Ayelid.
