Viducia Battle-Cleric |
x |
Viducia never knew her birth parents or the land in which they lived. Her egg was stolen from its nest by Talonok raiders, and spirited off to a faraway place for an unknown purpose. Angered by the abduction of eggs across Sornieth, a band of adventurers came together for an ill-fated raid of the Beastclans' egg stockpile. It was only through incredibly good fortune that Viducia escaped whatever fate had awaited her in that place. The inexperienced dragons found themselves outmatched, and the raid became a massacre from which only Gallicinia, the priestess, escaped - and it was Vidicia's egg that the Fae snatched from the Talonok as she fled. Again, chance favored them both, as Gallicinia and her precious loot would have been captured had they not crossed paths with Aurorus, a Guardian seeking his Charge. Aurorus drove the attackers away, and having found what he sought in Gallicinia, escorted her home to the Sunbeam Ruins. Viducia hatched during that long journey, and the two Light dragons raised her as if she were their own in the temple they claimed as home, along with the two Skydancer hatchlings that Aurorus had rescued in his travels, Cassius and Aquilius. Yet even in this idyllic setting, Viducia found continued turmoil. The Pearlcatcher was perpetually torn between two natures. She had been raised in a temple by a paladin and priestess of the Lightweaver, instilled from birth with their virtues and code of honor, and taught their healing arts, but Plague magic still burned strong within her. She controlled her aggression well, but she knew she could never be as calm and gentle as her adoptive mother. |
Her birth element haunted her; she began to blame it for her constant struggle. The Plague dragon in her was an inherently destructive monster to be kept in check by iron discipline - and the emotional support of the Skydancer brothers, ever-present at her side. Oh, she knew how they felt about her, but she tried to remain distant. It wasn't that she didn't like them; they were both charming, in their own ways, but she could not bear to choose one and break the other's heart. In love, as in life, she was conflicted. But Viducia's inner demons could not be contained forever. Clan Araven had made itself an enemy to the Beastclans, and eventually came under attack. In the chaos, Cassius was wounded, and the Pearlcatcher flew into a rage. She waded into the thick of battle, fierce and unafraid, turning her powers on the attackers with deadly precision. But some small part of her marveled, for she was not mindlessly destructive, even in the heat of combat. She fought with all the discipline she'd lived with, fought not to destroy but to defend, and made her way to the Skydancer. Ignoring the threat to her own life, she boldly worked her healing magic in the middle of a battleground. But the wound would not close; the attacker's blade had been coated in some manner of virulent ooze. It was no poison, her instincts told her, but a strain of sickness from the Scarred Wasteland. Without thinking, the healer did something she had never attempted before - she stepped beyond the healing magic she'd learned in the temple, and used her Plague magic to draw the infection out - and this time, she was able to close the gash. |
