Biography

When Ilnta came to the Caravan so long ago as a young imperial with his twin brother Italn he had a strange disease that made him not quite as alive as one would hope. Ilnta and his brother were born with one soul for two bodies and it left the brothers hollow. Not dead, but barely living. Ilnta was the most alive. The one who seemed to be normal enough to ‘fix’. But no one could fix him. Even though his mate tried before even she eventually gave up and left him and tried and tried until she came to a thousand dead ends. There was nothing she could do for Ilnta short of some sort of trickery and power that would strip Italn of his half of their soul which was, of course, impossible.

So Ilnta went through life as a half alive thing. Not dead enough to become an Emperor but terrifying all the same. He watched over Italn where his silent brother hardly looked after himself and made sure Italn gave and got no trouble from their clan.

Then, one day, Italn went missing. Ilnta looked high and low for his brother but he illuded Ilnta for weeks. Eventually he found Italn sleeping in an empty cabin deep in the Windsinger’s Tale. That in and of itself was strange as Italn did not sleep. But seeing that his brother was safe Ilnta let him be, and checked on Italn often to make sure he slept still.

At one point Ilnta felt a great change in himself. While before he was sickly and half dead, wandering the world without purpose or ability, he now felt vibrant and alive. He felt whole and complete. But his body still betrayed him and decayed from the inside out. He sought Italn out where he slept and found his brother gone. Ilnta turned the Tale upside down to find his brother and eventually was confronted by a dragon who did not look or resemble his brother but he knew, upon looking at them, that they were Italn. His brother had undergone a magnificent transformation and where before he was even more dead than Ilnta he was now alive and whole. He had his own soul and some sort of magic had been worked on his body to give him a new, healthy, shape.

Wanting the same for Ilnta Italn took Ilnta to who had fixed his mutilated soul. He was taken to the putrid creature known as the Tongue aboard the Slaughter Three. Italn asked them to do to his brother as they’d done for him. The Tongue said it would, if they killed their jailer, doctor Butcher. They said to find the Deep and it would help them. Or so Ilnta was told. He could not understand the Tongue and it only sounded like rasping and hissing to his ears.

So they sought out the Deep and found the huge Leviathan in the caves of the lagoon. It spoke in tongues Ilnta could not understand but Italn could speak to it. It said it could not get close to the Slaughter Three and would need help because of the dark magicks surrounding the ship so thickly. Ilnta, as a half dead thing, did not care about magic. Imperial bodies decay and consume magic as they rot away and Ilnta was able to lead the Leviathan right to the Slaughter Three where they were once more met with the Tongue. The Leviathan gave the Tongue some strange container and left again. The Tongue said it would not heal Ilnta unless they killed Butcher but the twins knew they were unable to do so as they were. They were no way strong enough to do so.

So Italn hatched a plan. Ilnta could approach the Slaughter Three without worry and he could spy upon the ship. So he did and watched the knife ship for weakness. He reported everything he saw to Italn and Italn saw Butcher’s weakness was his desire for control, and wanting to protect and control his niece, Killing. The Leviathan said Killing could kill Butcher but she would never raise a claw against him. The Tongue did not say they had to personally kill Butcher, just that they had to kill Butcher. So Italn devised a plan to turn Killing on her uncle.

The plan worked better than expected and Killing not only destroyed her uncle but ripped his very soul from his body and put into a bottle to stew for the rest of eternity. Butcher defeated Italn confronted the Tongue to uphold their side of the bargin and make Ilnta whole. Ilnta didn’t think they actually would and was pleasantly surprised.

The Tongue turned out to be one of the Lightweaver’s own Gaze, though stolen from it’s home before it could pupate and grow into its full form. Free of Butcher it transformed and showed it’s true and great colors and power and graced Ilnta with the same life it had bestowed his brother. In an instant all that Ilnta had ever been was wiped away. His skin healed, his mind became clear, flesh grew over previously displayed bones, and his body was allowed to match his soul. In an instant he was transformed and became what he should have been born as if he hadn’t had to share his soul with his dear brother Italn.

With his own soul and now a perfect body Ilnta shook off decay and illness and now presides with his brother and Killing aboard the enlightened Slaughter Three. Once he stood as guard over his brother, to protect him from the world that didn’t understand him and he had no place in, and now he stands guard over the Slaughter Three. Not as Butcher did to cage those within but to protect the things within from the outside world who would wish to destroy it. Or from dark forces that would creep into the hull for the bottles of evil Killing keeps. Or the hunters who would murder the mewing, pathetic, creature within.

Strong and able bodied Ilnta is honor given form and feels beholden to those who helped him. He is not so much a magic user like his brother is but his skills are well recieved. He became friends with Killing’s Guardian Searing and and is trying to earn the trust of the wraith where only previously Killing could command it’s obediance. With Butcher gone the Slaughter Three’s heavy air is starting to dissipate and maybe one day when Killing no longer mourns it will bear a new name and come with a new purpose. But that day is not a day that draws near quickly.
