What would you do if you woke up, expecting death but instead crippled for life? It made Leucetius bitter. It made him mean. He was never nice, not in the traditional manner. Brutal and irreverent, this killer-for-hire had a reputation for going even further than his clients requested. In some ways, this injured his popularity: if someone hires you to rough up their debtors and you kill them instead, they won't exactly be happy. Fortunately for the blood-winged Skydancer, this unfeeling attitude was very attractive to DERG, who were seeking a small division of mercenaries to perform basic scouting, guarding, and hits at their command. They employed the young, violent dragon for nearly three years, through the majority of their conflict with Spinehome, and he was well-known as one of their most fearsome warriors. In the final clash between Spinehome and DERG, Leucetius was struck from the sky at range by the fae Stratus. The hit fried his nerves and sent him tumbling down to the cold, hard earth, shattering both wings and damaging much of the musculature in his back. When he next woke aboard the airship the Lapin, one wing had been half-amputated and he had enough muscle weakness in the other to ensure he would never fly again. Seeking someone to blame, Leucetius grew angry with Dola, who had performed the brunt of the work on his injured body. For a long time, he was even more a recluse than Abel, snapping bitterly at any who approached him. It was months before Dola's seemingly-endless compassion got through to him, and while he is still bitter and irritable, he is not nearly as aggressive as he once was-- even before his injuries. Leucetius recognized Rise the moment he saw her onboard, and immediately jumped to attack. After being restrained and talked down, the two are still very aggressive towards one another, but as time goes on their bantering errs more towards snarky and rivalrous as opposed to flat-out cruel. Though he would be loathe to admit it, he has begun to view the Tundra as something closer to ally or friend than enemy. His injuries have left him incapable of maintaining his previous lifestyle, which is a big part of why he's stayed aboard the Lapin as long as he has. While he is perfectly capable of defending himself, he weakens faster than he did before and his loss of flight is an inexcusable weakness. |
