SANDY

Sandy is the older of Tom's two children and the one who spends the most time with her father. She lives at the family home, eats her mother's cooking, and most significantly, she acts as the test pilot for most of her dad's inventions. This is about as safe a hobby as you'd expect.

Surprisingly, the worst she has to show for it so far are a slight limp and a leg brace (also designed by Tom), the result of a calibration error in the beta version of ""pneumatic claws."" This was long before Cherry joined the clan, and the new and naive doctor got a nasty shock when she discovered the crooked bone during a routine examination. Sandy was less worried than she was: she still had the leg, didn't she? She could still walk and fly. Haggerty did his best.

Other than risky feats of tech-enabled daredevilism, Sandy most enjoys spending time with her girlfriend Phyllis. She always tries to collect wildflowers for the Pearlcatcher when she's in the desert on tests - Phyllis loves the yellow ones. They only rarely come back singed.

Sandy has nothing but admiration for her girlfriend - the career-oriented Pearlcatcher is clearly going places while Sandy is still flip-flapping along and taking tumbles for her dad. It doesn't really bother her, but it's not to feel a little self-conscious sometimes.

PHYLLIS

There's always some awkwardness to be expected when your boss is also your dad; luckily, Sandy and Tom manage to keep it to the minimum.

TOM

Sandy and Minya were friends growing up, with the caveat that in such a small town it's hard to avoid being friends with if you didn't feel like being enemies. They've drifted apart over the years but still talk, usually about Minya's latest efforts to draft Sandy into her band.
