Cortessa is the clan's head cook -- jovial, friendly, and flirtatious, she's happy to present anyone a sweet pastry or steaming teacup with a smile and a wink (she works extra hard to mitigate her assistant Mordecai's dour attitude). She'll be friendly to everyone, but woe betide the dragon that's rude to her -- nearly everyone in the clan is fond of her, and it really isn't worth the trouble of having Caliban, or feisty Smaug, or Cortessa's blazing little sister Castalia bearing down on you, now is it? Or perhaps someone even worse...
... Because the truth of the matter is, Cortessa leads something of a double-life; her tea house at the edge of the Waste serves both travelers who wish to clear their throats of ash, and more nefarious individuals who deal in the black market and live on professional skulduggery. Though she does not engage in anything that harms her clan directly, she sells the nastiest of poisons brewed by Ashan, fences off Brandy's stolen wares, and mediates contracts for the clan's resident assassins (as well as others), such as Taro, all right under Hecuba's nose. Some dragons, like Yang, suspect something is up, but no one has been able to catch her... yet. One of these days, she's going to mess up, and then batting her carefully-manicured eyelashes won't be enough to save her.
