Biography
Alchemist of the Clan
Perhaps one of the most enigmatic dragons of the clan, Hyacinth is a bookish Imperial who constantly reads, and is always doing strange things regarding Alchemy. Although transmutation may seem simple enough and plenty of these things are in no way mysterious, everything else about the individual is. Taciturn to the point that new acquaintances could mistake him for mute, and so calm and distant that he appears apathetic, it often looks as though Hyacinth exists in a separate reality. This is far from the truth, however. Hyacinth is as observant as the clan investigator Vetch, contrary to his aloof aura, and while he is normally known for monosyllabic answers and never initiating conversation himself, when demanded of him, he is remarkably well-spoken. This combination of traits has made Hyacinth an unofficial companion to the clan's ambassadors to other flights, his quick wit and judgement often saving terrible diplomatic situations. Despite this, however, nobody can force this noble, clever side to show itself when not needed, and thus Hyacinth has been branded as an eccentric...
Hyacinth, despite his strangeness, does have a mate, in the form of one of the clan's two Snappers, Cheshire (Although he knows her secret name). When seen together, Hyacinth does not appear to change his manner at all, and his speech continues to remain nonexistent, leaving interactions to appear as if Cheshire is talking and interpreting words from his silence. In normal circumstances, dragons would think this meant Hyacinth was ignoring her, or perhaps did not have any interest. This is not the case, however, as Hyacinth, though never initiating anything, has never rejected any touches of wingtips, headbutts, or nuzzles, and Cheshire claims they are soulmates. Were he uncomfortable, he still would have rejected her, if he did not feel something.
Although it is nearly impossible to catch, despite the fact that it should be impossible not to notice a creature as large as an Imperial doing something, sometimes Hyacinth is seen quietly slipping glowing, alchemically-created flowers underneath mushrooms in the fallen-log lair Cheshire calls home. How he communicates without words is a mystery, but at least once or twice, love letters, tucked carefully away in a book somewhere...
