Biography

Trickster of the Clan

...Cheshire is always smiling, and it is for this reason that many dragons in her clan believe that this is her real name. She signs it as such in documents, she introduces herself by no other name. Cheshire, in fact, is not the name she was given as a member of the Nature clan she was adopted into, where botanical names are a tradition. Willow, named after she was adopted from the Tangled Wood during a truce created by the Trickmurk Circus, rebelliously chose to call herself something else. Although still a hatchling at the time, and thus subject to the decisions of older dragons, Cheshire found her wish was respected. In private, however, those she has grown very close to still call her by her original name, though these individuals are rare, and never share her secret. Those who know the true name of Cheshire are a part of her inner circle, with whom she shares many of the strange things she has learned...

A trickster with strange abilities, Cheshire always wears an eerily-wide grin, even when angry or scared, and should this grin fall, it means that something very serious has occurred, indeed. With the powers of a Shadow dragon, Cheshire can seemingly vanish from sight, only to appear somewhere else. Her tail and hind legs are the first to disappear, in an odd, coiling sort of way, before the very last thing to fade is her eyes, and finally, the gleaming white teeth of her grin. This power to disappear is a sharp contrast to the carnival-like colors and markings of her scales, which on a normal day make her impossible to miss. Being only the second Snapper to join her clan, makes Cheshire all the more known.

Where Cheshire disappears to, nobody knows, but often, she comes back having collected strange items, from playing cards or glittering gemstones to things that give off an eerie, supernatural aura, perhaps magical. Her presence is accompanied often by a mimic creature in the shape of a violin, playing a strange, ghostly melody, which she tends to take with her. Whether she fairly purchased the things she gathered, or stole them, or found them, Cheshire won't say, but she often claims she has seen strange things and places, and that the items she found are from there.

When she has not vanished to some other place, Cheshire has established her lair inside a fallen tree trunk, concealed within one of the darkest corners in the clan's home. In this shadowy wooden cave, glowing mushrooms offer a small amount of light, just enough to see strange shapes darting about. A glittering collection of items and strange things clutter the walls, and Cheshire cheerfully asks what brings her guests there.

Perhaps one of the things that confuses everyone in the clan, universally, is how Cheshire, so mismatched by comparison, is a fit for her mate, Hyacinth. The two grew fond of one another as soon as they met (Although Hyacinth is nearly impossible to read, leaving dragons to wonder if he is only emotive in secret). How a taciturn, eccentric alchemist and a riddle-talking wandering trickster are compatible escapes everyone. The only obvious sign is that Cheshire is clearly affectionate towards the Imperial and Hyacinth does not seem to reject anything. Perhaps he is able to communicate without words, because his silence has never impeded their conversation, since the day they met.
