You'd never know Kettelson used to be the owner of the only general store in town. The "CLOSED" sign would hang at all hours on the dusty door, while the erstwhile shopkeeper anxiously declaimed on the dangers of the world and decaying moral fabric of the young'ins to Lavinia, who was seldom interested, or registered complaint after complaint to Stella. The complaints were usually about Bud. Eventually, he hired a young Fred to sweep the floor and ring in customers whenever he had a headache, which was more often than not. She began taking over more and more of the aspects of running the business until she was running all of it. Once Kettelson realized this, he handed over the keys and retired. Not working seems to work for Kettelson; his stutter disappeared practically overnight and comes to Cherry for headache ***** only a few times a month. |
