B I O G R A P H Y

Starwatcher

______Amiable, charming, and scholarly, Lars shoulders the duties of clan astronomer. He rooms in the treetops where he's friendly neighbors with Honey in her aromatic chambers and hanging greenhouses of herbs, and he charts the courses of the celestial bodies above the Shadowlands. It's thanks to him that the Fort maintains an accurate calendar of equinoxes, eclipses, star showers, and moon cycles around which to plan celebrations and daily life.

Secondly, and maybe more importantly, Lars is the clan's resident cursebreaker. He would like to remind you that he's never once claimed to be good at it.

It's not that he's ineffective. Lars was a student of magic before he was a student of the stars, and he's got a knack for seeing through enchantments and glamours. The Earth magic in which he's versed is often suited for Moonkeep's needs: Earth magic is the magic of the dead, the magic of tombs and bones and things buried in the darkness. But even so, the spiritually iffy junk Aleph dredges up from the flooded ruins is drenched in Shadow magic. It's slippery and sentient and often impenetrable, and far better magicians than Lars have been bested by it.

Often he recruits the services of his best friend Lyra when the fae isn't on patrol with the Sound - not because Lyra's any better at yelling in tongues at cursed hairclips, but because he's an excellent magical meat shield. No rebounding spell holds a candle to the combined power of Lyra and whatever the hell is possessing him, and while it's not a foolproof setup, it does prevent Lars from getting his head blown off by defensive counter-curses. He's an optimist, so he counts it as a win.

Nashia once called them, to their faces, two halves of a whole idiot. Lyra hadn't been offended because it hadn't occured to him. Lars hadn't been offended because she was probably right. Things might go more smoothly if Aleph wouldn't insist on lurking over the shoulder of anyone who looks sideways at his trinkets, even if said trinkets tried to bite your nose off. But, well, Lars doesn't figure the guy would take a hint. So it goes.
