Heaven was born on Sornieth, but as a young child she was selected to become a part of the Shadowbinder's entourage-a high honor. Heaven served under Her as a messenger for more than a thousand years, and was well known by many shadow dragons as the best way to get in contact with Her. While working under the Shadowbinder, Heaven met Mordred, a record keeper, and she fell in love with him quickly. Mordred had never seen Sornieth, as he rarely left the Shadowbinder's side, and therefore she delighted in bringing him things she would collect while delivering messages. One might think that the Shadowbinder would have discouraged or even forbidden such fraternization between Her servants, but She endorsed it to the point that She officiated their binding ceremony. Heaven came to the clan with a message for Burst-that he had been appointed a shadow loremaster by the Shadowbinder. Seeing his awe and gratitude at being acknowledged by a deity touched Heaven, and afterwards in her spare time she would often visit the clan. Burst, always hungry for knowledge, was thrilled to learn more about the deity who had cared for him when no one else would, and in return Burst told Heaven about the places he had visited. Travel and adventure was something Heaven dearly wished for, but her service to the god of shadow made her spare time very limited. Seeing that Heaven was restless, the Shadowbinder released both her and Mordred from her entourage and encouraged them to make a life and a family for themselves on Sornieth. The two returned to Starlight, asking if they could make a home base in his clan, and he was thrilled to welcome them. Both Heaven and her mate were thrilled to be around hatchlings, and Heaven instantly took to the role of teaching them. She teaches hatchlings about the deities, and the creation of the world, educating little ones on both fact and fiction, and how best to tell the two apart. Even after being released from her service, Heaven retains all the gifts the Shadowbinder gave her. She can easily meld into the shadows to hide, and can draw darkness around her wherever she is. Heaven also can fly several times faster than any other dragon. Her memory is flawless, she can recite a message word for word having heard it only once after a great amount of time. Mordred teases her that she remembers every missive she has ever delivered, which might not be far from the truth. Since coming to live in the clan, Heaven and Mordred have traveled from one end of Sornieth to the other, and seen the deepest depths of the ocean and the crests of the highest mountains. They have made many friends, and had many children together. None of their children have decided to stay in the deep woods clan upon reaching adulthood, which is fine with Heaven-more excuses to travel. |
