❁ STORY

Blacklight, for all her mysterious non-answers when queried about her past, is surprisingly easy to befriend. She’s cheerful and light hearted, charming and always ready to spring a horrible joke on someone when they least expect it. Her penchant for getting involved in things she maybe shouldn’t has her constantly encouraging Bereave and Chevron in their pranking (or actually part of the plan). Hard to pin down, Blacklight isn’t one for being idle and often leaves the lair for some unclear purpose or another just because she couldn’t sit still.

A true master at talking in circles, Blacklight can and will redirect conversation whenever her past or active role in the clan is brought up. Rarely does anyone notice that she’s changed the topic until it’s much too late. It’s generally assumed, however, that she takes jobs of a morally questionable alignment; whether that means raiding townships, stealing from high profile targets or assassination contracts, no one is completely certain. It’s probably a mix of all of them. Blacklight isn’t above doing whatever she needs to, being whoever she must, to survive. Of course, she has a family in the Reliquary, so perhaps she continues to pursue a career as a dragon for hire simply because she enjoys it and it gives her something to do.

Another thing hidden behind her wall of silence is how she came to be skilled with Light magic. (It’s something Tahvi and Anthelion in particular would love to know, something Callana has given up on asking about.) Blacklight has extremely good night vision, her goggles are tinted, protecting her eyes against the sunlight and also preserving them for when she strikes in the darkness. In spite of her choice of armour, Blacklight is scarily good at disappearing into shadows and she won’t be seen or heard until she strikes. When she does, it’s in a blinding flash of light that stuns and disorients her victims, giving her plenty of time to rough them up… or worse if called for. These skills make her the perfect night watch, and while Piper and Ravelin do a fabulous job during the day, the evenings are her time. And sometimes, Lotus joins her. Not to keep watch for enemies, but to observe the stars. Lotus is weird, but Blacklight appreciates the company.

Given her talents and occupation, anyone would be forgiven for thinking she’s like Venin. Or perhaps folks are simply unconvinced she’s a real threat when she’s so vibrant, always smiling and laughing. How can an assassin possibly be that friendly? How can she possibly seem so naive? So lacking in cunning? But Blacklight’s not stupid, brazen and rash, sure; but she’s not stupid. Just a master at convincing folks she’s harmless.

ORIGIN / They called her the Crow. Somewhat of a misleading name all things considered, but it stuck and she can’t shake it. A thief that can see better in the darkest of nights than most can in the daylight, a dragon to whom shadows and light both answer in equal measure, blinding and confusing foes and marks until they don’t know which way is up. The Crow can allegedly get into any locked vault and has stolen more valuables from rich nobles than most folks see in their entire lives. Of course, the Crow is just a legend. No dragon can possibly conceal their birth family that well. Right?

Fact / While her eyes say Water, she’s actually adept with Light magic. It’s a mystery to all. But rumour has it she spent a good portion of her life training with some secret society to learn the Light magics, she’s not a master (what with working outside her birth element and all) but she’s good enough to give actual Light dragons a run for their money. It’s unclear if this means she’s renounced the Tidelord or not and she won’t say a word on the topic.

Likes / Playing with magic; like making sparkles dance in the air, or creating strangely organic shapes flicker across her body (an indication that she’s about to use more powerful magic sometimes) and fireworks, she’s the best at fireworks. She also enjoys relieving others of their belongings and appearing out of thing air beside them to get a reaction.

Dislikes / Being given a deadline, or being pestered into doing things. Both are sure fire ways to make sure they never happen. She’s not much for structure, Blacklight prefers to live spontaneously. And some in the lair (Denara) don’t like her for that. She’s unpredictable.

Interests / Blacklight is skilled at using her magic to break into places and as a weapon and while most consider her to be a caster and rather poor in a physical fight, she’s actually quite practiced at using more mundane means as well. She considers it prudent to be prepared for all scenarios, including perhaps having her magic neutralised. As such, she’s quite into gadgets. Her belts are generally packed with tools she might need to handle a situation without magic.
