Name is of slavic origin with the following meanings: Sunrise & Morning Star. Of special note in mythology, however, it is the name of a water priestess who protects warriors. This is where I will pull influence from for this Zarya.

That being said, Zarya is also a goddess of the sunrise with a variety of mythos surrounding her - usually spelled Zorya and sometimes a twin or triple goddess. Associated with both the morning star and evening star (which are both Venus).

I plan to again pull inspiration from this as well for the following tidbits on the goddess' wiki: "Zarya was also invoked as protectress and to dispel nightmares and sleeplessness" (because I totally need this in my life)

and

"In another incantation, Zarya-Zarnitsa is invoked along with a 'morning Irina' and a 'Midday Daria' to dispel a child's sadness and take it away 'beyond the blue ocean'." Because I think it would be neat to incorporate this sort of thing into my water priest, ties the name back into ocean themes again too.

I can't find really anything at all on the water priestess of this name or how she protects warriors. So I'm gonna make all that up for this guy's lore.

Which brings me to gender. This Zarya loves pretty things and pretty colours, is easily mistaken for a female, especially in his humanoid form, and is very feminine. Equally attracted to flashy things and people, regardless of their gender. If asked about his own gender, he might say something like "I prefer to identify as pretty. That will do nicely, thanks.", but rarely thinks in gendered terms, and casually accepts every pronoun thrown his way. If you were to get a serious answer out of him for preferred pronouns it'd probably be he/him or they/them.

Prone to being a little enigmatic at times.

Probably uses runes and typical Water flight seer gifts to guide those who seek him out, protecting them through sound advice informed by runes and visions. In a nod to his namesake, he's probably a favoured consultant for warriors with a specialty in calming moods, easing the blues, preventing nightmares, etc.

Probably the runes are carved on beautiful, polished abalone stones with a side of divination using water from the crystal pools inside his large and decorative abalone basin. Or maybe a hand-held one with any water will do. Given the abalone's symbolic meaning of protection, healing, and strength, it would make a pretty good material component for helping out warriors and really all of the other ideas already listed in this bio. They also still use various crystals and pretty stones though because more sparklies is never a bad thing. Maybe something with various pearls too.

Yes. My dragons have IC gijinkas. It's the easiest and most agreeable way my brain makes sense of certain breeds being able to nest together or even be in the same buildings - or how a fae can make use of Light's Great Library as easily as an Imperial.
