After an eternity and then some, a faint crack of light slices through the endless dark of the dragon's cocoon. This is it, she thinks, and slowly draws in a deep breath. She has been waiting for so long, saving all her strength for this one vital moment. Loosing a mighty roar, she coils her body within its glassy prison like a spring and dives towards the light with all she has. There is a BOOM like lake ice cracking, and the splinter of light widens, a dozen hairline fractures skittering across its surface. With one last strike, the ridgeback's snout punches through the shell, which shatters like glass. She heaves herself from the cocoon's ruined carcass and falls on her back in a bed of shallow, silty water, with stars, endless stars wheeling overhead. After countless years in the dark, even this is blinding. She can still feel the emperor's lightning searing her scales, her armor melting like hot wax around her... Who knows, if she had been a moment later in pulling her wings around herself in defense, perhaps that thing would have finally made her death. But no, she had lived- through decades of painful regeneration, molting her fused scales one by one until she was whole again, only to break free and find... what? The Tower was still standing, now as lonely a figure as her own molted carapace clawing towards the heavens. But its hearth was dead, its tunnels lifeless save for the harpies. There was nothing for her here, it was time to move on...

« with each flash and beat of their wings, thunder follows... »

When their numbers were still measurable, it was considered both an ill omen and a rare gift to glimpse a fulgurite in their hunting grounds. Like their siblings, the cirrus shards, fulgurites once dominated the Reedcleft Ascent, presiding with iron claws over land and air, and hunting the region's leviathans back into the depths. But unlike their fair-weather relatives, fulgurites thrived in the worst storms Sorineth could conjure. Their bodies are dark as thunderheads, but their tough, transparent wings sizzle with electric blues, both scattering and magnifying every errant bolt of lightning that strikes in their vicinity. These storm-riders are bold, ruthless hunters. While their wings dazzle and distract, their static charge posing its own threat, their bodies seemingly vanish into the churning dark, making their movements dizzying to follow. When these dragons flock, dangerous weather must be afoot. Most have little patience for the exacting natures of their relatives, but they compensate for finesse with stubborn tenacity.

« "if death is to take me, it must be by surprise." »

Blitz' will is forged in obsidian and steel: hard, sharp, and unrelenting. She was raised in a wind clan, but has not forgotten what her eye color can't hide: she comes from plague-tainted blood. And what are plague dragons if not survivors? Blitz isn't truly immortal, though there's plenty of reason to believe she may be. She seems to have been marked from birth for all manor of calamity, but not even the most grievous wounds have managed to kill her. Each attempt on her life, whether natural or murderous, is met with laughter. Even with the loss of her home and clan, her enduring spirit refuses to back down. She may not like living from challenge to challenge, but until she can make peace with the world, she will continue to plow on undeterred. Perhaps someday she will find something or someone worth settling down for, but nothing has made her want to remain in one place since her first love, so long ago...
