Clever minds are much desired in the STU. When Sugar met Brande and Andorah at the trading post, ever-hopeful that she'd find the parts she was looking for, they quickly realized her potential and referred her to Ameobilia - who was all too interested in the Skydancer's pursuits. However, it didn't take long for a letter to reach the coatl's claws, delivered by a member of the Vindictive who heard words along the grapevine. Ameobilia, however, was ever a trusting dragon - so she brought Sugar to her office, and bid her speak true - that she would only have one chance to do so.

It seemed to strike a chord with the skydancer, and she confessed to everything that the letter detailed - her compulsive lying, her attempt to make off with the enchanted parts - all of it was true, but it was also true that she did not mean any harm by her actions. The lying, she claimed, was because of the attitude of Lightning dragons towards their constructs; if they had known she was trying to rebuild them to tame them, they'd have kicked her out from the start! Her attempt to flee was naught more than an attempt to put space between her experiment and the Lair, to keep the residents safe! The previous clan hadn't even given her the chance to explain herself! She begged, pleaded with Ameobilia to believe her - she could offer so much to the STU, if only given a chance to complete her research and experiments --

Fortunately for Sugar, Ameobilia was ever a kind dragon. Silencing her panicked defenses, Ameobilia assured her that she would have a place in the STU, and she would even have assistance and support with her research - provided she abided by a code of strict honesty from that meeting onwards. With relief, Sugar happily agreed, and has since worked as a construct expert with the STU; around the Clan lair and workshops, many of her smaller creations will wander, perform maintenance, and aid in simple tasks - though it is Sugar's ultimate goal to make a construct big and strong enough to defend an entire Clan; perhaps such an invention could even eliminate the need for Dominance...

The Specialized Technology Unit, or STU for short, is a group of 6 dragons organized by Ameobilia herself in the age of Thymara's reign. Each dragon in the group has some sort of talent with working with different forms of technology - Ameobilia herself is a jack of almost all trades, able to harness power, rewire it, and bend it to her will to create almost anything - respecting her Clan's roots, she always builds in and around nature, installing heating systems or running water into the Clan's home.

Without the STU to modernize the Clan's home, many a dragon would be left homeless or deathly ill. This is why Ameobilia's role in creating it has been so vital to so many dragons. If it did not exist, perhaps the fire might've been much worse, or Chazona might not have been able to cure the plague that hit. It truly is beneficial to any dragon.

Though the elite of the STU reside in Querencia and handle affairs in their own home, Ameobilia hopes that one day they could hand off their skills and titles to a travelling dragon and extend their faction to other Clans. Mixing elements in the way that she and her own have managed to, in her eyes, would benefit so many Clans beyond just her own - and that,
above and beyond being head of the STU and leader of Querencia, would be the thing that makes her life all the more worthwhile. Affecting others in the best possible way for a time that will outlast her is her ultimate goal.

Letter of warning for Sugar from Dawnbreak the Lightning construct dismantler.

Never have I met such a deceptively sweet dragon as this bothersome Skydancer. Honestly, either she gave herself the name 'Sugar' as a way to try to fool people into thinking her harmless and letting their guard down, or else her parents gave her the title in hope and turned out to be completely off the mark about what kind of dragon their daughter would turn out to be.

She came to our clan saying that she had heard we had problems with Lightning-corrupted machines attacking from time to time, which is true, and asked if she might possibly be allowed to watch us fend off an attack and to study the wreckage that's left afterwards. I wasn't sure she understood what a dangerous thing she was asking, since even the ruined and warped scraps of metal left from a destroyed machine can still carry enough trace magic to sometimes try reanimating, but she swore up and down that she would be able to handle herself.

I don't have the patience for babysitting like this, but she said that she worried other clans around the world might be having similar problems and she wanted to learn more about the things so she could spread the word to others about how to defend themselves. I couldn't in good conscience argue against that. I let her come along for one mission- if she promised to stay back and out of danger- and let her have the still-enchanted scraps to study instead of completely cleaning the bad magic from them like I normally do.

She hung around for a few days, spending all her time examining the wrecks and taking lots of notes like you'd expect, but something felt… off about the way she behaved. She was jumpy, twitchy, like she was trying to hide something. I kept an eye on her just in case. And wouldn't you know it, instead of turning the contaminated mechanical bits over to me to be destroyed at the end of the week like she was supposed to, we caught her trying to sneak away with them! The bits we took back from here were even partly rebuilt!

Once she was busted she started making excuses- that she didn't mean any harm, she just wanted to learn how to build things that could act on their own like these corrupt things had because she thought they could be useful. I don't care much whether she was telling the truth this second time or not. You lie once around dangerous dark magic that tries to kill people, you've lied one too many times already, and I don't want to hear any more. I don't think she even said the word 'sorry' once. Seemed too excited about whatever she'd learned and how she could put it to use to even care what she'd done to get it.

We kicked her out- WITHOUT the scraps or her notes, lot of good that probably does because she's likely clever enough to remember what her notes said anyway- and if we ever see her around here again she'll get a rougher treatment the second time.

Goodness help whoever she ends up with next.

Exalting Sugar to the service of the Gladekeeper will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
