Strelitzia
Druid, Naturalist
Secretive | Smug | Lovable

Strelitzia spends most of his time with his uncle Fern exploring Sornieth. Despite the technicality of their bloodline, Strelitzia calls Fern his cousin as their birthdays are two days apart. Of all the other dragons in the clan, his mate and Fern are the two dragons who know him well. He tends to keep things to himself due in equal parts to privacy and inattentiveness to telling personal stories.

Fern spread the rumor that Strelitzia can both speak with beasts and shape-shift. While some have seen him commune with nature, no one beyond the pair of them is quite certain whether or not the shape changing bit is true. No one anticipates ever learning the truth but enjoy the perpetuation of the rumor nonetheless. Speaking with non-dragon creatures is most certainly a gift of his lineage, as the translator Vasant is his grandfather. Apparently this gift does not extend to dragonkin, as Strelitzia has yet to make scales or feathers of the peculiarity of fae communication.

As for his mate, most of the clan, and particularly those closest to Strelitzia, strongly disapproves. In their evaluation, she is far too dark for Strelitizia and perhaps the clan itself. However, Strelitzia sees in her a desire and willingness to steer away from her own demons. Kyuubee's exaltation in her own power; the joy the radiates from her when she accomplishes something about which she cares; and in the quiet way she asks for help all add up to more than enough for Strelitzia to adore her. He's not blind to her casual cruelty--so natural to her now that she fails to even identify it--or distinct lack of moral compass. In spite of that, he also sees the way Kyuubee carefully guards her tongue and actions to never make Strelitzia the object of her nastiness, and increasingly considers his personal moral boundaries in the choices she makes. That to do so takes a conscious decision on her part makes the actions, in his view, ever the more significant. He's confident the clan, or at least Fern, will warm to her eventually.

He is flighty and distractable with a short attention span for anything that isn't spending time examining natural spaces. While he does not have much skill in magical healing, his knowledge of wild medicine provides valuable support to those who do. Fern tries his best to take credit for his own healing abilities, but is rarely successful with Strelitzia around to offer a matter of fact contradiction. This habit of smugness is often poorly received by other dragons, Fern included. In spite of his this perceived arrogance and his tendency toward evasion of personal discussion, Strelitizia is well liked. He's often discussed with fond head shaking and resigned, grinning sighs.

Since Plume joined the clan, Strelitzia spends considerably more time at home in the garden, much to Fern's (unexpressed) disappointment. With the efforts of The Gardeners, he has become preoccupied with the recently accessible plants, and the new ones that colonize the garden weekly. After appealing to Avalon, he now has his own corner of the garden to experiment with the cultivation of medicinal plants.
