Stav's entire past is shrouded in darkness, for himself and for the dragons around him. He remembers nothing of his earliest days after hatching. Just bits and pieces of memories. Hiding within the Scarred Wasteland, and scavenging for any bits of food he could find. There were no dragons around him, and he had no idea where his family was. He was simply alone. Most of the dragons he met within the Plague territory were rather hostile toward him, and he did his best to avoid them. It wasn't until he neared the border between the Scarred Wasteland and the Sea of a Thousand Currents that he met a small group of kind dragons. Amaia and the two hatchlings with her, Marhena and Zeno, were welcoming and gentle, offering to allow him to join them on their journey, since he had no where else to go, and even giving him a name. For the first time, Stav felt safe and whole. And he clung to his new family.

It became apparent to Amaia rather quickly that Stav was mute. Even though he was more than old enough to begin speaking, he couldn't utter a word. Once Stav understood what this meant, he became anxious that his disability would hinder his new family in some way. In his attempt to become stronger on his own, and not drag his family down more than he already was, he began training his magic in private. He struggled a lot without coaching, however, and normally just became frustrated and angry with himself. During one of his private training sessions, he was ambushed and attacked by a murderous dragon, and with no way to call out for help, Stav feared he wouldn't make it out of the attack alive. Luckily, a Fae by the name of Hotaru was passing by and heard the commotion. She swooped in and saved Stav's life. After returning to his family and explaining what happened, Hotaru decided to join them on their journey. Stav was drawn to her, requesting her help with his training, and she was happy to oblige. With the right coaching, Stav was now able to control his magic properly, and found he actually had quite the affinity to it. Hotaru and Amaia also helped him develop his own way of communicating, using clicks, whistles, and vibrating noises.

When the small group arrived in their new home, Stav took to it rather quickly. He was full of excited clicks, buzzing about their new lair. However, Stav was soon distraught, because he realized he had to decide what his role would be within the clan. And he had absolutely no idea. Hotaru encouraged him to find some kind of way to use his magic. After all, he was talented with it. So, Stav began studying Amaia's books and practicing his magic as much as he could. He eventually got to the point where he was writing his own spells, and pushing the boundaries of what his magic could do. This, in turn, lead to his passion for inventing. He began applying his magic to all sorts of things, hoping to use this magically infused items to make life easier for his family and friends.

Stav is a very kind, gentle dragon, but he is excruciatingly shy. He constantly frets over the judgement of other dragons due to his inability to speak, and does his best to express what he is saying as easily as possible. Even though just about every dragon who has joined the clan has been completely understanding about his inability to speak, Stav is deeply concerned about being a burden to the dragons around him. He is constantly trying to improve, not just his magic and skills but also his communication technique. He doesn't want to disappoint anyone and is terrified of failure and of being useless. The dragons closest to him always do their best to reassure him, but Stav is his own worst critique.

Despite his shyness, Stav is incredibly friendly, and tries his best to get to know everyone. He is extremely close to the dragons he traveled with, considering Amaia a mother and Nilam, Marhena, and Zeno his best friends. He tries to visit each of them as much as he possibly can. He treasures the friendship he has with the other dragons very deeply. He is friends with many other dragons in the clan, but that is merely on a friendly basis, and doesn't have the deep connection like he has with the others. Hotaru is Stav's partner. He was rather oblivious to her advances for some time, so when she marched into his workshop and demanded he take her out on a date, it seemed out of the blue to him. But he, of course, agreed. He already cared deeply for the other Fae and it didn't take long for their relationship to grow and blossom into more. Stav was rather terrified of being a father, but when their four children were born, he was overcome with emotion. He does his best to do anything and everything for them, and will go out of his way to make sure the four of them are happy. He is also incredibly relieved none of them were born mute like he was.[/columns]

When new dragons visit Stav's workshop, they usually have a difficult time differentiating the hums and whir of his various contraptions, and the clicks and hums from the Fae himself. But, even those who don't know much about his work, can tell easily just how exceptional it is. Stav was frail from birth, incredibly sickly, unable to fly, and mute. And yet, he was also born with incredible magical talent, and the drive to, not just live, but thrive. He may not be able to speak, but he has developed a method of commnicating through various combinations of clicks, whistles, and hums.
