Biography
The oily, damp caverns of the Windhover clan would hardly seem to be ideal place for a dragon who prides herself on her clean, pale coat... yet Gwen, with her ambition and drive to lead, thrives there. Since Sarnath, the clan's patriarch, has retreated from his leadership role, Gwen has seized power and convinced her fellow dragons to throw their weight behind on her own pet project: uplifting, by magical and mechanical means, the many familiars that call the Windhover caverns home.
Though the uplift project has many different branches, Gwen herself is currently perfecting an implantable device which, when surgically embedded in a familiar, boosts its intelligence in correspondence with its loyalty to a dragon. The operative word, of course, is "usually." The device works by feeding electrical energy through specially-inscribed arcane crystals which have been embedded in the animals' skull, supercharging brain development and function. However, because it uses magic, the device can have... unexpected effects. Some implanted familiars develop strange crystalline growths, weird behavioral quirks, or other strange mutations. Though the results are good enough that the Windhovers have begun selling familiars implanted with the device, Gwen knows she still has a long way to go to perfect her work.
Unlike Erebus and whatever abominations he's working on, Gwen keeps her experiments strictly above-the-board. No morally-dubious experiments on Beastclans for Gwen--just dumb familiars, always properly anesthetized.
Gwen's mate, Leucas, fails to understand her fascination with the familiars. They do share a passion for taking power over others--even if Gwen prefers to do so through leadership, rather than intimidation.
