Syre was born in Light territory to a clan whose lair sat close to Shadow land. Her clan warred with Shadow: warriors clashed, buildings fell, and eggs were lost to all parties involved. Prior to her birth, Shadow was enjoying their conquest when a mage stumbled upon a healthy Light nest. A touch of a claw to an egg's shimmering surface caused it to darken for a moment, affecting the embryo within. An alarm raised, the mage was chased off, but their influence incubated. She hatched with no trouble. Opening her eyes to the bright sun that was her birthright, she gazed at her siblings. They all were bright hues. She looked at her paw to see it darkly colored with runes skittering over the surface. Recoil turned to panic as she heard concerned murmers from the gathering to watch the hatch. Syre was defended by her parents, as all remembered that day the Shadowbinder's minion tried to corrupt her egg. She lived as normal a life as she could, if a bit ostracized, but the dim forests mere miles off always called to her. One night she packed rations, potions, then whistled for her Raptorik familiar. Syre disappeared into Shadow territory that night. "Hey! You there." A large Guardian came out of the thick brambles, causing Syre to back up. "Yeah you. The Light eyes in the Shadowlands. This ain't the right place for you at all. Look at those runes." The Guardian lifted her paw to show off her own runes. "That's the mark of a mage. Lets get you to the Starfall Isles eh? You look lost." Syre warily agreed and followed the Guardian- her name was Lilac, she would later tell Syre- to a well-hidden cave entrance. Lilac assured her this was the safest way past the Plaguelands and after more travel they reached their destination. Here the land was saturated with power and magic. It took some time to acclimate, but Syre finally felt at home. The mage that marked her in the egg meant to enslave her to the Shadow flight, but her mind was nowhere near chained. Becoming a mage herself, she joined the ranks of Arcane's dreamers. Her mate is Shadowsneak, a spiral who is also Shadow-touched. Their presence in the clan influences other nests: a Shadow-touched hatchling was born independent of either of them. The entire clan finds the phenomena fascinating and accepts every hatchling as equals to themselves. Syre and Shadowsneak are exclusive mates and all of their children resemble them in their Shadow coloring. They and their brood inhabit the Starwood Strand, where the dark forests compliment their appearance and they feel most at home. |
