Shadowsneak

Shadowsneak's father, Arctan, was a Water dragon immigrant who settled down in the Starfall Isles. He sought to escape a prophecy he himself scried- one of his children would be subject to the Shadowbinder's influence. Arctan quickly left the Tidelord's domain and sought refuge. The Starfall Isles welcomed him to his new home and there he met Shadowsneak's mother; his worries near forgotten in the new land.

After some time a clutch was laid. The eggs received the best of care and the gestation went off without a hitch. As the excited parents looked on, the first egg hatched- a dark purple snout pushed free of its bonds and soon the rest of the hatchling followed. The hatchling was the spitting image of a dragon fit for the Tangled Wood. When he opened his eyes though, it was clear he was an Arcane dragon. Arctan brought in the oracles, diviners, any dragon he could think of to get their opinion. They confirmed he had been affected by the Shadow element.

Away from his brood Arctan flew into a rage. Swearing and snapping he sought to find the source of this. His energy fizzled out quickly but he realized he uncovered something. Investigating, he found the opening to a tunnel. Later exploration of it proved it led under Plague territory and to Shadow. Some latent magic from the Shadowbinder's land found its way through this tunnel and saturated the nest Arctan and Shiana laid nearby.

Many arguments between the clan were had after the discovery. Arctan naturally wanted to have it sealed up and forgotten. Others argued it could be a valuable trade route as the Plaguelands were dangerous. After days of discussion it was decreed to stay open, as the baby Spiral seemed unharmed by the influence. Naturally, the Arcane clan rigorously tested him but he turned up exemplary in near every field. He was a healthy, happy Spiral with an attention deficit- but most Spirals have that. Any nests were moved from the site, and guardposts placed near the tunnel to monitor travel.

Through this tunnel came one like Shadowsneak. Her metallic hide shone the same tone his did, but she was a Pearlcatcher of the Light element. She came alongside his best friend Lilac. "Found her out in the brambles," Lilac had said. Then she purposely left her off with Shadowsneak so he could show her around the clan.

Shadowsneak is exclusively mated to Syre. All of their hatchlings bear their primary coloring. Most stay within the clan or seek the Arcanist, but a few adventure out to trusted clans. Those that stay live with their parents in the Starwood Strand. There they help police the traderoute tunnel and interact with travelers. The entire brood is a welcome addition to the clan and not treated any differently than if they were not Shadow-touched.
