Biography
When lightning strikes the ocean, where does all of that energy go? One fork of lightning spears deep into the surf, agitating the water around it to boiling. The thinner branches arcing off of it succumb one-by-one to the crushing pressure of the cold water, energy fading, sparks guttering in the void. One tenacious tendril keeps going, deeper and deeper, dimming but not fading, until it hits bottom. Rather than diffusing that energy among the sand, scattered and formless, that one tendril transferred all of its remaining energy to an unassuming oyster, in just the right place at just the right time. A flash of light--the tiniest, wettest, big bang--and the spark is in you. Your first memory is of bubbles, heat and light and expanding, growing. You unfurl, becoming, for the first time. You have an awareness of you and sensation, you are cold and damp--you have never felt these things before, never been aware of feeling them. You burst from the whitecaps, flinging water from your wings, reveling in the warm sun on your face and you know, somehow, intrinsically, that this, the joy of creation, is what you were made for.
