Biography

“Stupid dad,” the young Wildclaw muttered as he lugged his bags across the plains, using an intricately drawn map to guide his way, "sending me three regions away." He was heading to a clan near the outskirts of the Sunbeam Ruins. The prince was to be staying with until he successfully hunted and killed a Featherback Boar, which according to his father was no easy task. He was informed that the purpose was 'to prove that he could rule the kingdom once his father passed’. "Stupid pig." In his opinion, it was the stupidest idea the old lizard could've come up with. “Stupid responsibilities. Stupid- UGH!”

Riptide let out a shrill yelp as another form came barrelling into him, causing him to come crashing to the ground along with the assailant in a heap. He opened his mouth to let out a string of curses directed at the other before he caught sight of them, all his words getting caught in his throat. “Sorry!” A female’s voice spoke from above him, the petite body of a white Nocturne appearing in his vision. Her fiery orange irises were directed at him, the daisy flower crown atop her head set askew, probably from the impact. A silk scarf winded around her neck while her wings had white roses hiding underneath the wing cover of a healer's garb. In short, she was beautiful.

She climbed off of him and brushed herself off, readjusting the flower crown so it sat straight. "I'm so sorry, are you alright?" Riptide blinked owlishly.

"O-oh, you said something?" He stuttered, cheeks heating up. She giggled, a heavenly sound that made his cheeks turn a dark purple.

"I asked if you're okay," she repeated, smiling amusedly down at him. He scrambled up and brushed the dirt off his luxurious attire and stood up without the help of her outstretched hand.

"Yes! Of, of course I am!" She seemed taken aback, but her smile didn't fade.

"You seem lost," she noted aloud, “is there any way I can help you?”

Riptide blinked. "N-no! Not at all! I know exactly where I'm going!"

Her smile grew, causing his heart to swell. "I'm glad! Happy travels," she cheered, turning away to trot in the opposite direction. That's not what Riptide wanted, he wanted her to ask more about him so that he could boast about his status and hopefully woo her, not for her to just dismiss him like that!

"Wait!"

She stopped and turned expectantly, orange eyes inquisitively staring into his yellow ones. “Yes, actually,” he sighed, showing her the map. “There’s a clan I’m supposed to be visiting that live somewhere in this area. Their lair is marked on the map. I-I seem to be close, but I just can't figure out which way to turn.” She came closer and took the map from him. Her brows furrowed from underneath her flower crown as she scrutinized the map closely, bringing it up to her face so close it looked like she was sniffing it.

Finally, she perked up, announcing, "Oh! I live there!" She handed Riptide the map. "Sure, I can take you there!"

They walked for about a minute in absolute silence. Riptide couldn't stand it, so he blurted, "I'm Riptide." She didn't look at him as she introduced herself without missing a beat.

"I like it! It sounds noble. Mine's Iris."

"A pretty name for a pretty lady."

She giggled, causing him to smile. He was starting to genuinely like her.

They talked for a while as she lead him down a path that spiraled downwards toward the sea, walled in by two great rocks that rose into the sky and only got higher as the path continued. “It’s just down there. We live in a valley, you see, right next to the Crystalspine Reaches. We're hoping on letting our clan grow a little more before we pack up and move closer to the Observatory. That's our end goal, after all," Iris explained, her wings fluttering as she hopped over an uneven part in the rocks. "By the way," she added, eyeing Riptide in the corner of her eye, "where are you from? Your clothes look super high quality."

"I’m from a kingdom within the Sunbeam Ruins. My family is one of the most powerful royal bloodlines, and I’m the heir to the throne," he replied casually. Her eyes sparked with interest.

"Oh, so you're a prince? Why are you here at the edge of the Ruins, then?"

Immediately, Riptide's mood crashed. "Royal duties," he grumbled dismissively.

"Oh," Iris whispered. Immediately, he felt bad.

"Sorry, sorry," he mumbled after sensing her reaction, rubbing his eyes. “My dad thought it would be a great idea to test my ability to rule the kingdom by sending me out here and forbidding me from returning until I brought back a monster pelt. He thinks I’m not able to rule until I kill some giant pig.” The cerulean prince spat out the words like venom, his tone showing just how much he hated the idea.

"What kind of pig?"

"A Featherback boar."

Iris halted. "Wait, say that again?"

Riptide stopped also. "A Featherback," he repeated, slower.

"Wow," she breathed, resuming down the path. "Your dad must expect a lot from you. Have you had any experience in combat before?"

"No."

"What? Seriously? Featherbacks are huge!"

They continued talking for a few minutes before Iris suddenly sped forward, leaving behind a frazzled Wildclaw as she cheered, "We're here! We're here!"

“Hey- wait!” He called, clutching his bags to his chest and jogging after her, using his wings to propel him forward. Why didn’t he bring a servant with him, or bring less items? While it was true all of them were necessary if he wanted to keep his royal air about him, they sure did weigh him down a lot as he tried to run.

Suddenly, Riptide emerged into a clearing, a wide valley walled in by giant crystals that reached toward the sky. A small group of dragons were spread about the area, while hatchlings played together near a spring, splashing happily in the gentle water. Iris turned to him with a bright smile, waving him toward her as she continued sprinting. She looked like she was heading toward a cave cutting into the rock, blocked off by a purple curtain with intricate patterns that he could see from thirty yards away. His jaw clenched as he trotted after her, ignoring the curious stares given by other dragons as he passed.

I was going to say Redspring or Icefire, but then I saw Riptide's bio and... A wannabe hero has an awful lot to prove. Just saying. I can see him taking on dragons and enemies twice his size, insisting he doesn't need help, that he can do it alone. (While the rest of his group of friends roll their eyes, set out the picnic stuff and place bets on how far he'll go before asking for help.)

Riptide has a flare for the dramatic and a habit of embarrassing himself. Before one battle he had it in his head to make a stirring rallying speech, leaping into a tall rock and projecting over the field of the honor and valor to come. About a minute in his grand gesturing took him too far to the edge of his podium and he promptly fell off in an indignant heap while the rest of the clan warriors looked on in embarrassed dismay. Despite the leers and disapproving glares frequently sent his way, his stunts have only grown in scale. Truly, this "hero" knows no shame.

Hellbender looks Riptide over and immediately bursts out laughing, "Watch yourselves folks, a great warrior has come among us! Tremble before his mighty prowess, lest he send you to an early grave! Truly this is a dragon whose skill is unmatched and whose strength is unmatched!" Dropping the sarcasm, he chuckles again and flashes a sharp smile with a wicked glint in his eyes, "But we both know that ain't true, don't we, mate? Just look at you, all shot and no powder. Ya think yourself to be a right brilliant leader someday, but you're still just a snot-nosed little princeling who can't even take care of himself yet. Gods, I'd hate to follow YOU into battle, more than half my time'd be spent tryna save YOUR sorry tail rather than takin' down any foes of my own! Woe betide the kingdom that gets YOU put at the helm."

Cupcake bows respectfully to the young prince and offers him a golden rose, "Age is no indicator of ability. I think there is much potential in you, and I know that you are working diligently to prove it. Maybe you will have some bumps and bruises along the way to greatness, but you won't let that get you down! You'll learn from it all and become wise, and one day you shall be a wonderful ruler to your kingdom!"

Seems like he could be a very wise yet also vain guy. Like, he talks a lot about himself, has an ego the size of the actual sun but when push comes to shove he is definitely able to prove that there's a reason he talks so highly about himself- with skills, knowledge and experience like he has he feels he can justify it.
