Biography
Xerces
The Headmaster In Chains |
Imprisoned deep within the repurposed Clan Alys vaults, surrounded by magic-suppression runes, and under constant guard, Xerces is in one of the highest-security vaults this side of the Starfall Isles. Even with all this, Xerces still organizes and runs the Alys University and its resistance. Refusing to kill him, Melira keeps Xerces locked away as a mix between political prisoner and trophy.
The Headmaster in chains, as the University sometimes calls him, sends his messages through a teleportal technique he learned in Clan LunaeMaelstra. The only downside is, due to the magic suppression, the portals can only be opened long enough to send a written message, not receive one. Xerces overhears much from the idle chit-chat of bored guards, and forwards relevant information back to the resistance. Outside of these missives, however, Xerces is incredibly isolated. The only prisoner left from the University faction, he has few chances to interact with any being capable of conversation other than the guards (who are ordered to not speak with him). This has been taking its toll on the old fae, leading to several of his friends wondering what state he’ll be in when he can finally escape from Melira. Under heavy wards to suppress the effects of his magic on the world and keep him imprisoned, Xerces can do little to escape. He sends messages to his fellows, and he trains. Unlike many dragons, shaping magic to affect the world around them, Xerces has turned his powers inward. He trains his magic to enhance himself, so that he may break free of his prison with or without the wards in place. And after that, he often thinks, will come revenge. As headmaster of Alys University, Xerces oversees the university, manages most of the paperwork along with planning the course of the university. He no longer can teach any classes; however, he often sends long papers filled with things he’s learned over his life for others to teach in his stead. It is this, perhaps, that Xerces hates the most about his imprisonment. In addition to his university duties, Xerces is the commander of the resistance, guiding them from his cell. Xerces and Gentian are life mates. They were incredibly close before Xerces’ imprisonment, and Xerces sends her letters via teleportal whenever he can. He longs for the day he will be free and can return to his two loves, teaching and Gentian. |
