Actually a glassblower, not a smith; there will never be another substance he takes more pleasure from shaping, coloring, creating.

But since everyone keeps asking for metal and he's the only dragon big enough (with at least enough knowledge not to hurt himself) to work his forge, he can manage metal too.
He didn't really care until a beautiful stained glass light fixture fell because the anchor link for the metal chain broke, but that was all the learning experience necessary. Metal matters, even if it doesn't spark the same joy. It requires the same care for quality.

And it does make for interesting trips out to find new materials.

Took him awhile to notice the warm little bug fae that started hovering around when he's out, but they work well together now that they've had practice, her always up to go and him able to track such a tiny partner.

(As long as there aren't too many other similar-colored and -sized potential partners flitting around, but Magrat sets those on fire quickly, so it's still easy to distinguish her.)

Has a memory like a tundra, but only for faces. ...And lairs, apparently, because he's pretty sure this isn't the one he grew up in unless all the voices and the layout changed after he went out to see the world. But it's easy to remember who's who here since everyone wears different hats, and since Magrat goes out with him they always come back to the same place with the hats. That's nice.

Never gave much thought to not being single until Thing came along, pulling the lair inside out (sometimes literally) to wire for electricity and commissioned his assistance. For glass. Protective lampwork shades, the final choice of design up to him, obviously, as it's his area of expertise, yet ready to engage in discussion about the aesthetics as well as practical aspects of different options, and has decided opinions (even though she doesn't know his terminology any more than he does hers)...

What else could he possibly say after the work was finished but "I like what I know of you. If it's mutual, want to get to know each other more and see if it holds true?"

Does not appreciate Cuddlebug's cat's persistence in being a nuisance around dangerous temperatures and materials, regardless of its supposed namesake, especially given how often it's shooed away and theoretically shut out.

Kamaji doesn't much like cats, never has (Jiji only affirms that), and there is no exception, because the little creature he does like is clearly a bug. That happens to possess a few curiously feline characteristics and appeared during the skycat migration, but nevertheless: bug. Clearly.

He actually thought it might be a mecha at first, but Magrat had Swamprat take a look and confirmed all the visible segmented joints are from an organic carapace.

It's a helpful little bug, handy for illuminating tiny details and crevices, easy to keep out of trouble since there's always a tiny (literal) spotlight wherever its attention is fixed, and usually easy to distract by offering crickets or scritches.

He leaves it behind whenever it's time for another scrap-collecting expedition. The only real potential danger within the lair is cats, so Mags spun a single-fae roost for it hanging from the middle of Kamaji's ceiling so it has a refuge thoroughly out of feline reach. (Plus Wist thinks it's breathtakingly beautiful so is always happy to bugsit while they're away.)

Since Kamaji is no good at naming things, he deferred that choice to Thing. So the bug's name is also Thing. (It usually gets lengthened to Bugthing, or occasionally Lightbugthing or Thingbug.)

Magrat explained, to someone else, that Kamaji apparently needed a pillow for some reason.

(A Magrat-sized pillow. But this one's his.)
