Cartilage The Artisan Acolyte of Grimoire Status: Alive Meticulous | Tidy | Somber | Perfectionist | Solitary Necromancy is a precise and delicate art - an art that many do not understand. Cartilage is the builder who pieces together the skeletons upon which Grimoire builds her creations. In spite of his blindness, he is able to identify bones simply by touch. Grimoire considers him a genius and perhaps even an equal. Cartilage is an engineer, a sculptor, and an architect - except that he works with marrow and calcium instead of wood and brick. Many years ago, Cartilage made his home with a clan in the Tangled Wood. However, his unwholesome interest in death and decay made him a pariah among his clanmates. Cartilage would spend hours studying half-rotten carcasses that he found in the woods. Instead of honoring and burying the bodies, he would disassemble their skeletons and name and number each one of the bones. The last straw came when members of his clan discovered Cartilage digging up burial mounds. He claimed that he only disturbed the graves so that he could study the remains. Graverobbing was the only way to get the bones he needed for his experiments. Truly, he meant no harm by it. However, his clan took grave offense to the disinterment of their deceased clanmates. They pierced his eyes with thorns and exiled him. In shame, Cartilage wandered into the Scarred Wasteland and was found by Grimoire. As a fellow exile, she felt a certain kinship to him. It was only when she discovered his talent with bones that she made him an acolyte and began teaching him Necromancy. Cartilage is a highly reserved dragon who typically keeps to himself. He does not lord over the Workshop like the other acolytes, mostly staying in his own cavern room. He has few friends, but he is respected by all for his great skill and dedication to his craft. Cartilage is partially responsible for a great deal of the creations in Grimoire's Workshop. Due to his quiet nature, Cartilage has few friends. However, he works closely with the Gravedigger to procure materials for his work. He brings her food as well as little toys and trinkets which he carves out of bone. Cartilage senses the strange magic emanating from the Gravedigger and seeks to understand it. |
