His name is Icelandic for "remember."
Munaa's memories don't go back very far. His earliest one is his memory of his arrival at Eightleaf Town. Everyone was shut inside that night, because a violent blizzard was tearing through the town. Somehow, he instinctually knew where the town's medical clinic was, and pounded on the door, calling for help. He and his sister, whom he had been carrying, were let in. He recovered from the blizzard within a day, but he couldn't remember anything from his past apart from how to function, what various things were called, and that the young, female Coatl with him was his little sister. He also knew that his name was Munaa and that hers was Vekja.
Munaa was thus diagnosed with amnesia, but Vekja had it worse. She was in a coma. The doctors at the clinic couldn't find the cause for either of the siblings' ailments, but it was clear that Vekja would need to stay in the clinic until she awoke. She was very weak, with a delicate, slender build to begin with. If only because of how pale she was -- let alone her shallow breath and her trembling -- the doctors were worried that she was at death's door. Through their tests, though, they were at least able to rule out the Nosos virus. Somehow, she still lives, however. They also worried for Munaa for a while, because of his own pale plumage, but he seemed healthy in every other way -- apart from his amnesia -- so their concerns abated.
As compassionate as the doctors were to the siblings' plight, resources couldn't last forever, and so they could only offer a little bit of charity. After that, they would need to require payment, or send the Coatls away. Munaa set to work trying to discover what skills he may have had, in order to get a job so he could pay for Vekja's continued care.
Considering his amnesia, it was recommended that he go see Runa: a fortune-teller who lived in town. The meeting did not go as planned. She met him at the door and demanded that he get away and stay away from her and her tent, claiming that he'd been cursed. Runa holds this stance to this day, and also to this day, Munaa remains a bit gobsmacked at the seer, obliging her request.
Fortunately, Munaa indeed found a hidden skill. While he couldn't remember any kind of teaching, his body knew how to dance. They were graceful motions, exemplifying elegance. Munaa performed in the streets at first, paying Vekja's medical bills and putting whatever money he could away for his own place. Up until now, he had been sleeping in his sister's room at the clinic. Eventually, and through both payment and charity, he managed to have a small lounge built as his place of work. The more he earned, the better he was able to furnish it, and buy himself better performance garbs, in order to earn more money. Given the town's small size and few visitors, however, business was never exceptional, and so eventually, any more investment in the lounge and in his attire would have just been expenses that wouldn't pay off. So, for the most part, he stopped investing in it.
Munaa's life runs about that way, now: performing in his lounge, visiting his unconscious sister, and enjoying the little pleasures in life that he can. Only a couple, vague memories have returned to him. One is that he used to dance with Vekja, when they were little. Another, is of falling snow. And finally, the fact that Vekja wasn't his sister by blood, but rather, that they were surrogate siblings. That doesn't matter to him, though. She's as much his sister to him as she would have been had they been hatched from the same clutch. He would do anything for her.
As for himself and his own interests, though, dancing goes without saying. Really, however,
he loves anything beautiful and elegant. Music, fabrics, flowers... His taste in fashion in particular leans towards the intricate and the extravagant. He doesn't shy away from pastels, frills, lace or flowers, and so some have called him gaudy. Others have made assumptions about other preferences in his life because of it, too. Some, recognizing his natural beauty, have been disappointed when he informs them that the only performance he gives anyone is his dancing -- it begins and ends there. He has absolutely no desire for a mate in any capacity. One phrase he's -- to his annoyance -- come to memorize is "My sense of fashion does not determine my interest in a mate." Lately, he's been considering hiring a bodyguard, since he, like his sister, is built fairly daintily.
How did Munaa lose his memory? He doesn't know; he can't recall. However, the answers can be found here.
Running a business by one's self can be very difficult, especially when one has a comatose sister whose medical bills need to be paid on top of all other expenses. Munaa was in something of a bind. As a stroke of luck, one day, he heard about a dragon named Lest who ran a tea shop and host service, where guests were entertained with all sorts of performing arts. Despite how far away it was, he decided to see if he could learn anything from the business, and sent a letter to the dragon in question asking if he could train under them for a week or so, and explaining his own business and situation. Knowing it was entirely possible that he'd never hear back, he simply resumed business as usual. However, after some time, he received a return letter from Lest, informing him that they would be happy to have him. And so, Munaa set up arrangements for his sister to be cared for and closed his lounge for a while. Then, he set out, away from the Southern Icefield for the first time, to gain new skills and experience, and to see if he could improve his business from how he already did things. And if things simply worked out better being a part of this other business...perhaps he would fully commit to it and simply send money home as he earned it.
