Compared to other fae, Ketsel is virtually insensate to the magic of the world around her. Instead, she frequently gets into physical scrapes (combat and other adventures), and has the astonishing resilience to match. Born in the Tsunami Flats, Ketsel fit in poorly with her clan. as Fae body language doesn't come naturally to her, and she has a particular tic of flicking her fins forward as she talks, both of which make her come off as unemotional and unpredictable to fae and non-fae alike. She took to a wandering lifestyle, gathering her own food and defending herself when necessary (perhaps more than strictly necessary).

She first met Zasshiki when they ended up fighting alongside each other against the same Shade-cursed mantarune. Despite Zasshiki's best efforts, Ketsel took the brunt of the mantarune's attacks, and Zasshiki at first believed her to be dead. Despite her vocal protests that she was not only alive but perfectly fine, Zasshiki half-dragged her to the Haven and meticulously watched over her recovery. Ketsel felt the medical attention was unnecessary, but was touched by how much effort Zasshiki put into understanding her tone and emotions.

Ketsel and Zasshiki have developed their own system of tone markers that is primarily based on claw movements and isn't quite the same as that found in any dragon culture. They have a close relationship that has occasionally tipped over into romance but isn't currently romantic.
