"Flirt with death but fall in love with life."

Gervazy and Milicent were both born into a band of traveling wildclaws known as the Metallic Mercenaries. Highly skilled, they sold those skills to clans who could pay. Their members came from all over Sornieth, and nests were laid and hatched on the road between jobs. Hatchlings usually didn't develop a strong affiliation to any single flight, even the one they were born into, as they rarely spent much time in one place.

All Metallic Mercenaries had sleek armored hides to protect against enemy blows, and they were trained to fight nearly anything. They honed their physical skills until they could stand in combat against any breed of dragon or beast clan, meeting them in battle with techniques suited to conquer any foe. Those gifted with the sight, such as Vaz and Mil, were given additional training to fight against spirits and ghosts, even those that haven't manifested a material form or who lurk just behind the veil.

After the events of the Barrier Breach, Eztli traveled in search of dragons he could recruit or hire to further shore up his clan's defenses. Word had reached Lantern Port of the talent and renown of the Metallic Mercenaries, and Ez finally located a few of their number in the Windswept Plateau, defending a clan against an army of Longnecks. He was amazed to see such a small force easily defeat a more numerous foe, and after the battle, he approached them with an offer, having nearly emptied the clan's hoard of treasure in hopes of having enough.

Though born in different regions, Vaz and Mil had united in childhood when their parents joined forces to work together on a series of jobs, and Mil's grandmother had trained them both once she realized that like her, they had the sight. Their childhood friendship blossomed into romantic feelings once they became adults, and soon they were partners in every meaning of the word, both on and off the battlefield. They were intrigued by the coatl's situation, by his story of spirits and weaknesses in the veil between the realms, and they were eager to branch out from their families and prove themselves as a couple, so after some bargaining, they accepted his offer to work for the clan on the island of Prufrock.

Once on the island, they joined forces with the clan's exorcists and warriors to help coordinate patrols and defensive positions. Unlike many of the clan's warriors, they are able to perceive unmanifested, incorporeal threats from the spirit realm, but unlike the exorcists, they do not use spells to deal with those threats - only physical attacks. Due to their training, their attacks, unlike those of most dragons, are able to harm incorporeal entities.

Though they spend most of their time on the island of Prufrock and on Lazarus Rock guarding the points where the veil is weakest, they also take turns patrolling the lands around Lantern Port on the mainland.

Mil and her mate are quite alike in both appearance and abilities, and many of the clan's dragons, even their friends among the exorcists and warriors, find it hard to distinguish them. Those who have known them for a while learn that Mil is more gregarious and usually speaks on her mate's behalf, even when he is present. Though a bit embarrassed by her hobby, she secretly loves gardening, creating and nurturing life instead of ending it as is usual in her job. When her secret was discovered, many in the clan were eager to have her revitalize some of the failing gardens in need of tending, especially the neglected ones along the terraced path that leads from the library to the beach. Overcoming her embarrassment, she is usually found digging and planting when not training and patrolling.
