______ Arcana meandered through the damp city streets as the drizzle of rain pelted his glimmering overcoat. A pack of cards or two bounced against his leg as he aimlessly wandered, stowed away for any impromptu sleight of hand.

______He stared at one of the floating cards that hovered around his torso as it made its way along his wing, so engrossed in its shimmering aura that he nearly ran over a small hatchling running down the sidewalk.

______“Whoa, watch it, mister!” The little spiral stared up at him with wide eyes filled with childhood mischief.

______“Sorry kid,” the skydancer took a step back. “How about I make it up to you with a magic trick?” He pulled a stray card from the menagerie that floated around him, flicking it up into the hatchling’s view for an extra flair.

______“Oh boy! Yes please, mister!” The spiral sat himself down into a puddle nearby, too engrossed in the possibility of a magic show to care about his now-sodden tail.

______“Alright, here I go! Master Arcana, at your service.” Arcana took a bow as he slid the card back into its orbit, and pulled a pack out of his pocket. “Now, for this trick, I need you to look at a card. But don’t tell me what it is!” He said as he shuffled the deck, before slipping one card out and showing it to the hatchling. The little spiral was enamored as Arcana feigned slipping it back into the deck, instead flipping it backwards and up into his sleeve.

______“Okay mister, I’m ready for the trick!”

______Arcana nodded. “I’m going to turn around three- woah!” The skydancer pretended to slip in a puddle, throwing the deck of cards everywhere and pulling the card out from his sleeve, placing it under one claw. With his other claw he halted the hatchling, who had jumped up to help Arcana. He flicked the card up into the air, before letting it fall to the ground in front of the hatchling. “Is this your card?”

______The spiral nodded, his mouth open slightly in awe. “How’d you do that?”

______“A magician never reveals his secrets.” Arcana grinned a toothy grin.

______“Oi, what’re you doing to that hatchling?” A large, suspicious guardian was walking up to the two.

______“Just a magic trick.” Arcana responded as he idly gathered his now damp cards.

______“Hmm. . . well, he’s my son. And we’d best be going.” The guardian stared at Arcana.

______The skydancer shot a glance at the spiral, who was now vehemently shaking his head, his eyes wide with panic.

______“Really? Because he doesn’t seem to know you.” Arcana looked back at the guardian, a protective growl rising in his throat.

______“Well he’s coming with me whether he likes it or not.” The guardian shoved past Arcana, whipping a knife out of his jacket and jabbing it towards the skydancer.

______In a single moment, Arcana’s eyes had lit up as he began to chant in some ancient language- a prayer to the Shadowbinder. The guardian was gone in a poof of deep, purple smoke, his knife left clattering to the ground. The skydancer tucked it into his pocket before wiping his claws of any dust.

______“Off you go!” He smiled at the hatchling.

______“Wha-what did you do to him?”

______“A magician never reveals his secrets.” Arcana winked.

- Renowned for his sleight of hand
- Extremely close relationship with the Shadowbinder, granting him mysterious yet powerful magic magic.
- Easily angered, overprotective of Adelaide and Hime
