AU is in a state of shock! The announcement hit him harder than a double contuse, throwing his heart into difib, knocking all breath from his chest, leaving a dizzy sickness to wash over him. His parents have both decided to give themselves to the Arcanist in the coming battle with Lightning. He knows the battle will be fierce, but to have his parents make the sacrifice for the win? This is not entirely unexpected, but to accept it's reality feels like a death sentence to his own life. The loss of his parents means he, AU, will take command. He knows he's not ready since he is still a youth by dragon standards. To be sure, he dare not show weakness in this clan or none of the others will follow him into battle. And it would be a devastating loss without a legion of dragon forces behind him. AU comes from warrior lineage and as much as he hates to admit it, he's proud of his parents, but he shamefully attempts to dissuade them. He dreads the idea of becoming completely alone after this mission. But they are determined. The day for the battle is approaching. His instincts are sharpened by the fact that he has no other connections to any dragon in this clan. He is only a fighting machine. He sneers at his weakness and longing; and finally, steels his emotions with an impenetrable armor. As leader of the dragon youth brigade, he begins preparations. |

Egypt descends from royalty. His privilege has afforded him kindness! His strength of character has caused it to overflow to the many kingsdoms and clans he visits. Egypt came to Starkeepers clan to help fill the void left by AU, who sacrificed everything always for others. This, of course, was a 180 degree change in Au from before the war. Many of his clan wondered how there came to be such a dramatic change. During his AU's life, although once hardened by war and the kind of leadership which requires steeling one's nerves against mercy, AU experienced a brotherhood with Egypt, which caused Egypt to visit AU's clan often. Their friendship softened the hard-hearted AU who learned, not to love necessarily, but to be sacrificial for those in his care. Ironically, although Au was not close to anyone in the clan, Egypt found fellowship here. His confident and kind nature attracted all who met him and soon a young beauty caught his eye. All the clan begged him to stay. He negotiated to have Sunweaver for a mate, but he would not have had to do that had he known of her deep love for him. BOOK 2 Egypt has settled into Starkeeper's clan with ease. Saiph saunters into the room. What happens next should make everyone's head bow in embarrassment. |
