Obviously every dragon comes from somewhere. He showed up just-shelled out of the dark on one of the longest nights of the year and, whenever anyone tries to ask where before that, takes too much pleasure intoning something mysterious like "Shadow hides me," or "Out of the night that covers me, black as the pit from pole to pole..."

His mystique only lasts for pre-thought lines. Was unprepared for the "what's your name" question and latched onto the first suggestion made while everyone else present was agreeing that wasn't very nice of Tigris. Was then so confused by everyone's attempts to explain why that they eventually gave up and assured him it was fine, never mind, just fine. (Ai doen't see a problem either.)

(It is not fine. Trying to refer to, not refer to, or address him generally leads to hopeless confusion in short order, but as that appears to make him happy the name's definitely stuck now.)

Then followed Calcifer's advice on how to dress "subtly" to "blend in." (Calcifer is no longer allowed to give advice, ever, especially to anyone who would actually listen.) How he succeeds at it is a mystery, but it's always peculiarly difficult to find him among the lair residents.

(And how a dragon that size can blend in with faes when he tries no one will ever understand.)
